Coordinates all activities involved in the location of City utilities, including domestic water, pressure irrigation, storm drain, sanitary sewer lines, fiber optic lines, traffic signal loops, and all underground City-owned utilities; performs directly related work as required. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the City Engineer, other City employees, commercial and residential property owners, builders and contractors, utility companies, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in the field at various City utility sites with exposure to a variety of weather conditions, terrains, traffic, and equipment. This position requires periods during which the employee is on call 24 hours a day, including weekends.
Employee locates underground City utility lines in a timely and accurate manner as requested, including compiling research information for each site and physical site inspections. Utilizes the Citys Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify the location of City utilities. Utilizes the software to track and maintain records of utility locates performed. Reviews and updates surveys, plans, and documents of public works construction and City infrastructure to ensure the validity of utility locations. Records utility drawings and requested information for public works construction and City infrastructure. Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
May perform inspection of the installation of City utility infrastructure. May assist in the inspection of Right of Way Permits.
