Electrical Engineering Intern

Astronics Subsidiary Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a hardware-focused Electrical Engineering Intern to join our Cabin Power Product Engineering Team in Kirkland, WA during the Summer of 2026.

This is an on-site position. Candidates local to the greater Seattle/Kirkland, WA area highly desired. Relocation support is not available for this position.

The Electrical Engineering Internship is a paid, full-time, summer position where the intern is considered a team member who will learn and contribute during the assignment.

This internship offers hands-on hardware design experience working alongside skilled engineers to develop products that operate in demanding aerospace environments. You'll have the opportunity to strengthen your circuit design, troubleshooting, and layout skills while gaining exposure to avionics standards and processes.

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineering Intern may assist in electrical circuit design, circuit board layout, component analysis, and troubleshooting for product development and support activities. Focus will be on building fundamental hardware engineering skills while contributing to real product development efforts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in electrical circuit design with integrated circuits
  • Assist in power converter design (buck converter, boost converter, flyback converter, etc.)
  • Create and review circuit board layouts with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Conduct electrical circuit troubleshooting on prototypes and production units.
  • Perform component analysis and interpret datasheets for proper selection and application.
  • Operate test equipment including oscilloscopes, DMMs, AC and DC power supplies, and SPICE simulation tools.
  • Contribute to evaluation of test data and recommend improvements.
  • Document designs, create diagrams, and maintain organized engineering files.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support power supply design and testing for DC/DC and AC/DC systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Electrical Engineering student entering Junior or Senior year or pursuing a Master's.
  • Coursework or lab projects in hardware electronics design.
  • Familiarity with basic troubleshooting and lab instrumentation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong interest in hands-on hardware engineering.
  • Team-oriented mindset with attention to detail.
  • Bonus Tool Experience: Thermal imaging systems, spectrum analyzers and circuit board layout tools.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

As a US Department of Defense Contractor, Astronics is bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Must be a US Person under ITAR to be eligible.

An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing pre-employment background check and drug test including cannabis screening.

Intern Base Salary is $28.00 ~ $30.00 per hour and the position is eligible for holiday pay.
