This position exists to provide para-professional accounting work for the Central Services section for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's (MDA) Finance & Budget Division through the application of independent decision making and professional judgment in all assigned areas. The position is responsible for the coordination of mini-pool usage, process and reconcile incoming checks, reconcile and recharge monthly mailroom invoices, sort and deliver mail, packages and supplies daily, process outgoing mail and packages, and create agency purchase orders. The incumbent must maintain Authority for Local Purchase (ALP) certification with Department of Administrations for purchasing up to $25,000. This position provides backup for other accounting functions within the Central Services team as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of basic accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts, and purchase orders, and to compile and process records.
Communication and customer service skills sufficient to write, read, and speak effectively with suppliers, internal customers, co-workers, and supervisors including ability to explain policies and procedures to others in a clear and positive manner.
Data entry sufficient to enter text and numbers into spreadsheets, databases, computer systems and applications to maintain accurate, up-to-date account information.
Math skills sufficient to compute totals, averages and percentages of numerical data to check or reconcile data.
Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record subject to review.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in a mailroom.
Typing skills of net 45 wpm or better and ten key speed above 8,000 KPH (Keystrokes per Hour) with at least 98% accuracy (measured on a 3 or more-minute typing test).
Office equipment experience, specifically using a laminator, folding machine and paper cutter. Microsoft Outlook experience.
Ability to review, analyze, and provide solutions to accounting problems.
Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize workload, work independently, and meet statutory and Legislative Audit requirements related to the position.
Experience with writing procedures and reference guides.
Physical Requirements
Standing and walking at a fast pace for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
