Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala University's largest with nearly 400 employees, including around 100 doctoral students. The department conducts world-class research and education in both theoretical and experimental physics and has extensive collaboration with the outside world. We research and teach about everything from the incredibly small to the large, such as energy supply, climate development, new materials, and the universe.
The department's administrative support function currently consists of 25 employees, of which four are active in the HR function. Within the HR function, we work closely together, can jump in for each other during busy periods, and as a new employee, you will work in parallel with other colleagues and can benefit from their experience. As an HR generalist at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, you will be part of the university's HR function and collaborate with the HR department at the university administration. Various development projects are ongoing within the HR function where you have the opportunity to participate. You will also have access to a wide range of competency development in the HR department.
An important part of the work as an HR generalist is to continuously provide consultative and service-oriented support to both the department's management, department heads, and employees in matters relating to the entire HR area. You handle, investigate, and drive matters within the HR area on your own and together with colleagues in the HR group. This includes following up on appointments, working on recruitment, and ensuring that labor laws and agreements are followed. Monitoring and applying the regulations governing employment conditions within the public sector, as well as contacts with other relevant authorities, are also part of the job duties. As an HR generalist, you are expected to contribute to the development of new work routines and a good working environment, both within the own work group and the department as a whole. General administrative tasks are also part of the job duties.
The position involves close cooperation with the department's department heads, employees, and other colleagues within the administrative support group, while you are also expected to drive matters on your own. The job duties require an outward-looking and proactive approach and the ability to communicate well in both Swedish and English since many of the employees are non-Swedish speakers.
The HR function is part of the department's support activities, which provide service and support to the core activities in the areas of finance, HR, IT, communication, and educational administration.
Qualification Requirements University or college education in the HR field and several years of experience in HR work. Very good knowledge of Swedish and English in both speaking and writing; very good skills in the Office package. We are looking for a person who is both accurate and service-oriented, but who also has good collaboration skills, good judgment, and great responsiveness in the work. It is also important that you have initiative and can drive issues on your own, and that you can work structured and problem-solving in several parallel ongoing processes.
Desirable/Meritorious in Addition We would like to see that you have experience working with HR issues in the higher education sector or another public authority. It is also meritorious if you have knowledge of our administrative systems - the payroll/PA system Primula, the recruitment tool Varbi, the rehabilitation tool Adato. Experience working with URA agreements (overseas assignment) is also meritorious.
