Clinical Account Operations Director

UPMC Procirca is looking for a Clinical Account Operations Director to join their dedicated team!

This position is designed to provide comprehensive support and leadership in all clinical activities of Procirca's MCS Division. The role encompasses managing daily hospital and industry operations for Procirca clients, developing strategic models for client coverage, assisting industry partners with clinical trials and the development of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) technologies, and providing direct hospital-based support for industry and clinically based clients. The incumbent is expected to deliver the full clinical scope across the spectrum of short-term and durable VAD/TAH in both pediatric and adult realms. Key responsibilities include being the primary point of contact for Procirca’s clinical accounts, assisting with managing operations at partnered sites, providing direct clinical management of MCS recipients within Procirca contracted health centers and industry partners, training medical staff in the use of MCS devices. The incumbent will work directly with the Senior Director and play a significant role in advancing Procirca's business and scope of work, as well as in the scheduling and management of staffing resources supporting these efforts. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in a 24-hour call rotation, represent Procirca MCS within the Cardiovascular industry on a global basis, and contribute to the design and development of innovative cardiac and organ support technologies. The ability to work independently and possess a deep clinical knowledge base is essential for this role.

This role will support the Pittsburgh area but also expected to travel 50% - 75% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate support activities within Procirca contracted health centers and for industry partners.
  • Serve as the primary liaison or superuser for new MCS platforms and be responsible for educating and verifying competencies for their Procirca peers.
  • Work directly with Senior Director to prepare and validate invoices
  • Identify and foster opportunities for the expansion of support activities within existing and new Procirca contracted health centers and for industry partners.
  • Serve as senior support staff for MCS recipients supported at partnering medical institutions.
  • Manage the care of MCS equipment at partnering medical institutions, including Abbott Heartmate II (LVAD), Abbott Heartmate 3 (LVAD), Abbott Centrimag (LVAD), Abbott Pediamag (VAD), HeartWare HVAD (LVAD), Abiomed Impella (2.5, CP, 5.0, and RPFlex), and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP).
  • Assist medical staff in the set-up, operation, and clinical/technical evaluation of MCS equipment.
  • Maintain a regular call schedule to provide clinical/technical support to the MCS population and medical staff.? Provide clinical management of patients supported by contracted MCS device manufacturers, including medical staff training, troubleshooting/emergency response, and assistance with the development of patient-care protocols.
  • Will be key point of contact for all MCS industry partners
  • Will work directly with industry partners to develop or enhance clinical MCS technologies, or the application of these devices.
  • Provide training and oversee competency testing for all hospital staff, outpatient facilities, first responders, physicians, and clinical personnel in the community
  • Provide clinical/technical support to outpatient facilities (SNF, LTAC, etc.).
  • Coordinate and administer patient and caregiver education.
  • Accompany medical staff during VAD patient rounds and introduce VAD technologies to VAD candidates and caregivers.
  • Address technical device issues during serial clinic visits, including VAD equipment examination, VAD settings optimization, component tracking, and data collection.
  • Manage component tracking/inventory and hemodynamic data collection/documentation in EPIC.
  • Prepare for Joint Commission hospital DT recertification.? Contribute to associated clinical research and peer-reviewed publications at national meetings.
  • Implement clinical trials and novel technologies.
  • Develop clinical protocols and pathways.
  • Order and maintain all implant and device-related supplies (disposable and capital components).
  • Administer patient billing activities in the MCS domain.
  • Be on-call for implants, re-operations, and clinical/technical emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate for this position should have at least 8 years of hospital and industry experience, be competent in the use of all widely used MCS technologies and possess at least 5 years of experience teaching surgeons and other clinical personnel in the use of MCS technologies.
  • The candidate must have the ability to work independently in various settings, including the operating room, catheterization lab, intensive care unit, and other clinical settings common in a major healthcare facility. Experience in teaching and excellent communication skills are essential.
  • The candidate should be willing to travel up to 75% of the time on short notice for emergency clinical support needs.
  • Experience working with clinical trial technologies is required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Exchange, EPIC, and internet-based software applications, is necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in written form, are crucial.
  • A deep clinical knowledge base is essential for this role
