Custodial Services Night Supervisor

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is hiring a Custodial Services Night Supervisor. The Custodial Services Night Supervisor is responsible for the management of the campuses second shift staff and academic buildings. This includes identifying work unit resource needs, supervising and developing effective custodial teams and/or coordinating project work to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of institutional property. The position is a working custodial supervisor who also supervises staff, including several custodial positions and will be responsible to respond to off-hour emergency calls and be part of the management essential staff team of the Physical Plant. This position will also oversee events setups and planning and coordinate scheduled overtime activities for the department.

This individual must have knowledge of modern and national cleaning standards and procedures. This is a highly responsible and professional position which takes general direction from the Custodial Services Program Manager. This is a full-time, benefit and paid leave eligible position. Salary for this position is $43,800.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Identifies work unit resource needs, manages workflow components, schedules logistics and secures resources for the completion of established projects by internal and external entities
  • Develops, implements, and schedules operational work plans of staff for one or multiple projects or work units
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • Implements the use of and provides training for new supplies/equipment to ensure adequate utilization
  • Identifies, develops and implements facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures to align with institutional safety rules and regulations

Management of Night Shift Custodial Services for Campus Academic Buildings

  • Plan and coordinate routine cleaning projects on a timely basis.
  • Inspect academic buildings to determine if proper custodial service is being provided by staff.
  • Order cleaning supplies and related equipment and maintain sufficient supplies at each cleaning station.
  • Maintain all equipment in working order.
  • Keep records relating to building service.
  • Inventory supplies and equipment and process projections for annual budget.
  • First line supervisor during working hours for building maintenance emergencies and call ins.

Supervision of Staff

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
  • Develops, implements, and schedules operational work plans of staff for one or multiple projects or work units.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, i.e., time sheets, accident reports, vacation scheduling, and assignment of tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Ensure that unit employees comply with safety and health standards and the work rules.
  • Provide instruction and training for employees in area of custodial services.

Coordination of Day Shift and Evening Shift for Meeting Building Temporary Programmatic Needs

  • Determine set-up or take-down needs.
  • Assign set-up or take-down duties.
  • Assign overtime as necessitated and maintain records.
  • Communicate set-up or take-down requirements to first shift through Supervisor of Housekeeping services.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Knowledge and understanding of custodial duties.
  • Prior supervisor or management experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without mechanical assistance.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of MS Office Suite, email, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to read work instructions and schedules, warning labels and instructions for equipment operation.
  • Ability to identify tasks or issues and address properly.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the conditions to drive a state vehicle.
