***Federal Work Study Student Intern***

The Next Generation Philanthropy team is excited to be hiring a student intern. Our office works to keep graduates of the last decade informed, involved, and invested in the University while also helping student groups fundraise. The NextGen Internship will primarily focus on social media content creation and management with some additional outreach responsibilities. The role is hybrid virtual and in-person with most work occurring virtually and asynchronously. The role is expected to provide 10 hours of work per week at a payrate of $19 per hour. Students may not work more than 20 hours per week.

The competitive applicant will be self-motivated, with the ability to independently generate and develop creative ideas for Instagram posts. A strong sense of initiative is key, as maintaining an active social media presence requires a steady flow of engaging content. They should also be collaborative, recognizing that effective content often involves input from multiple stakeholders. Asking for the right information and resources to bring ideas to life is an important part of the role.

Since our goal is to post daily, the applicant should have reliable availability and a commitment to producing content on a regular basis. Finally, the ideal candidate will be organized and future-minded, able to think ahead and align posts with key events while helping to shape and evolve our brand identity over time.

Key Responsibilities:

Creating Seven Posts Per Week

  • Drafting post texts including hashtags
  • Drafting post designs using a combination of Canva Pro and our image resources.
  • Using social media integration tools such as Later to schedule posts and monitor Instagram engagement

Creating Additional Kind of Content as Needed

  • Creating Instagram stories
  • Creating reels
  • Capturing and editing video content

Generating Images for Use on Social Media

  • Taking high-quality photos of Grounds and events (ex: Lighting of the Lawn)

Managing the NextGen Instagram Engagement

  • Responding to comments on and messages to the NextGen account
  • Attend weekly review meetings to talk about Instagram content and strategy

Qualifications:

  • Current full-time UVA student in good academic standing
  • Federal work-study required
  • Strong background in social media/content creation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for UVA and encouraging others to support its mission

Preferred Skills:

  • Social media marketing experience
  • Videography and video editing skills
  • Familiarity with all features of Instagram

Work Schedule:

  • Flexible, with most work occurring asynchronously
  • Occasionally, the student may be asked to help staff an outreach table either at an event or just for NextGen outreach
