Lock And Key Foreman

The Lock And Key Foreman is responsible for overseeing skilled tradesmen within the Maintenance and Repair Lock and Key Team, providing leadership and direction in managing essential campus infrastructure, and ensuring high-quality service and reliability. This person will be responsible for delegating tasks, assigning duties, offering technical guidance, and coordinating training to support the professional development of staff. This position works closely with the M&R Superintendent, stepping in when needed to support and maintain continuity of operations for the entire group. Additional responsibilities include ensuring timely procurement of materials and equipment to support projects and general shop activities and collaborating with other Facilities Services units, campus departments, and contractors to achieve seamless coordination and effective outcomes. This person is responsible for upholding safety standards and compliance requirements across all shop functions as well as fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide employees on the Lock & Key Team.
  • Ensure team members are properly trained for their positions while setting priorities to address both service requests and long-term campus needs.
  • Assist mechanics with ordering parts and supplies to support timely repairs and project completion.
  • Communicate project and service requirements to management to secure necessary funding and resources.
  • Make informed decisions that directly impact the safety of students, faculty, staff, and critical campus systems, ensuring all work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Engage with faculty, staff, and students to ensure concerns are acknowledged and resolved in a timely, positive, and professional manner.
  • Represent Maintenance & Repair - Lock & Key Team with a commitment to quality service and responsiveness.
  • Maintain a professional presence in all customer interactions, modeling the standards expected of the team and supporting employees in receiving customer service training and skilled position training while reinforcing the importance of strong campus relationships and a service-oriented culture.
  • Assistance in hiring new staff, staffing adjustments, and manpower moves to ensure the proper balance of skills and coverage across the team.
  • Approves leave and overtime requests, reviews and signs employee time records to maintain accuracy and accountability.
  • Coordinates 24/7 on-call support for these areas, ensuring the availability of skilled personnel and assisting with communication and scheduling to provide timely responses to campus needs.
  • Review projects as requested to determine what will be required of the Lock & Key Team to provide security in the new buildings or remodeled areas.
  • Perform take-offs of blueprints to assess the materials needed to complete projects and submit orders for materials in a timely manner to prevent any delay in completing the project.
  • Work with designers and contractors as needed to ensure that all work is completed to the university standard for safeguards and security.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years related locksmith experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Demonstrates reliability, attendance & punctuality
    • Knowledge of safety measures and codes
    • Ability to lead others, enforce policies & procedures and practice UT disciplinary action
    • Demonstrates positive attitude and interaction with others
    • Skilled in using hand tools
  • Other Conditions: Valid Driver's license
  • Work Location: University of Tennessee – Knoxville, TN Campus
  • This is an on-site position

UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville.
