Ph.D. Student Position in Aerospace Engineering

The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Ph.D. student position in Aerospace Engineering focused on experimental fluid dynamics starting in Fall 2026 (flexible). The successful candidate will join Prof. Cabrera-Booman's research group to study particle-flow interactions in turbulent and impinging jet environments. The work will combine advanced diagnostics (high-speed imaging, PTV, acoustic measurements) with custom-built experimental setups.

Full tuition and stipend provided through research/teaching assistantship. Yearly salary range can be found under Graduate assistant base stipends.

Projects

  • Jet and rotor flows interacting with dusty or granular beds (aerodynamics, acoustics, erosion).
  • Turbulence and particle dynamics in water tanks with controlled forcing.

Required Qualifications

  • Background in physics, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in hands-on experiments and fluid mechanics.
  • Prior experience in laboratory measurements, instrumentation, and data analysis (MATLAB/Python).

Schedule: 20 hours per week
