Academic Support Specialist II

The Academic Support Specialist II is responsible for curriculum design, instruction, updates, and analysis of reading intervention coursework for undergraduate students in fulfillment of state law 13 KAR 2.02. Coordinates the REACH Academic Coaching and Learning Contract program and coaches students on academic and financial success behaviors. Assists with the REACH Hackademic Series. Provides statistical analysis and reports on the efficacy of services and programs to the Associate Director. Directly supervises (3) graduate assistants and 5+ academic coaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides management and support for the REACH GEN 105 program in fulfillment of state law 13 KAR 2.02. Interviews, trains, supervises, coaches, and evaluates three (3) graduate assistants (GAs) staffing GEN 105 course sections. Has primary responsibility for coordinating all operations for GEN 105 including registration, development of training and research materials and Blackboard shells for GSAs, monitoring attendance and grade records for each course section, and ensuring all course sections are instructed by student staff using consistent syllabi, student contracts and evaluations that maintains a student-friendly learning environment.
  • Oversees daily operations of the REACH Academic Coaching Program. Supervises 5+ academic coaches. Performs data analysis of operations to measure impact on undergraduate student success and retention.
  • Coordinates the REACH Learning Contract program in fulfillment of state law 13 KAR 2.02. Identifies and provides academic and transition support for incoming students whose unweighted HS GPA was between a 2.0-2.49. Provides academic coaching for this population and other students referred for one-on-one assistance. Collaborates with Executive Director in liaising with Commonwealth Credit Union for financial success modules. Analyzes participant and non-participant data and refers students to other university resources as appropriate.
  • Assists and supports the REACH Hackemic Series academic seminars, workshops, and training sessions. Collaborates with the Associate Director and REACH staff on curricular design. Assists with any requested seminars, presentations, and workshops provided to the UofL university community or to non-campus groups.
  • Prepares reports on the efficacy of the REACH GEN 105 Program, REACH academic workshops, and on other programs or services as requested. Assists the Associate Director in preparing statistical reports, outcomes analysis and other assessments of academic retention services' productivity and effectiveness.
  • Serves on university committees and assists with REACH Summer Orientation and Accuplacer Testing and with professional services/activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in a university learning center.
  • Master's Degree and college teaching experience.
  • Reading instruction/teaching in a college or in secondary education (high school); direct experience assisting students with academic skill development and transition issues; and direct experience working students and those who do not meet college readiness indicators.

Competencies:

  • MS Office Suite Supervisory experience Classroom mathematics instructional experience.
  • Knowledge of postsecondary education and student development.
  • Analysis and data reporting skills.
  • Critical thinking Teamwork Interpersonal skills.

Target Compensation Maximum: $70,623.00

Target Compensation Minimum: $47,048.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
