Perform skilled physical labor on construction and maintenance work and interact with campus customers, supervision, peers and employees.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Receives work assignments from Foreperson/Sub-Foreperson, Director of Building Maintenance and Grounds, or Superintendents. Work is inspected by the Building Maintenance Construction Laborer Foreperson or Sub-Foreperson. May work from roof, ladder, scaffold or stage. May work in ditches and near moving machinery and equipment. May work while wearing a respirator. May work when exposed to traffic. May work at heights, depths, confined spaces, noisy areas and in inclement weather. May work in temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels. May work at heights to inspect equipment located on platforms or hung above tall ceilings. May work amid hazards of work sites such as dust, noise, and in areas such as coal fired power plants, animal rooms, and laboratories. May be exposed to radiation and chemical fumes, molten lead and welding arcs. Use of Personal Protective Equipment is required when hazards exist. The workload associated with the position can be stressful at times.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of experience in the use of tools and equipment commonly used by laborers in the construction trade (examples of equipment may include: air hammer, concrete saw, patent scaffolding, trench digging equipment, etc.) and experience should include knowledge of asbestos removal/handling.
3. Valid State of Illinois driver's license at the time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Asbestos Supervisor License, Asbestos Building Inspector license. Current Hazwoper 40 hour training, OSHA 40 hour training. Must acquire a valid State of Illinois Asbestos Worker license within the 6-month probationary period.

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2210 - Construction Laborer position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/26/2026. Starting salary is $34.46/hour.
