Ohio Eminent Scholar And L.W. Scott Alter Chair Professor, Mechanical Engineering Program

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati invites tenured candidates at the rank of full professor to apply for the endowed Ohio Eminent Scholar and L. W. Scott Alter Chair Professor in Advanced Manufacturing position. The position is intended for a senior faculty member with an extensive track record of research excellence who will be able to push the envelope of manufacturing to address new challenges in the field. The position benefits from a generous chair endowment, reduced teaching load consistent with the research focus of the position, and a competitive salary commensurate with candidate experience. Additionally, the MME Department provides unique opportunities to grow a world-class interdisciplinary research program in manufacturing bridging the disciplines of mechanical engineering, materials science, and industrial and systems engineering. The College of Engineering and Applied Science at UC has pioneered the mandatory cooperative experience for engineers since 1906 and has excellent connections with the industrial sector, both locally and nationally. Cincinnati has been identified as one of the most livable cities in America, situated in a tri-state metropolitan area with a population of 2.2 million and with excellent cultural and entertainment opportunities.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop a world-class research program in manufacturing by attracting extramural funding, advising graduate and undergraduate students, and publishing research results in professional journals.
  • Build externally funded joint ventures (such as multi-investigator research teams and centers) as well as strengthen partnerships with industries through research collaborations and workforce development initiatives.
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to their specialty areas, including but not limited to Mechanical, Materials, or Industrial and Systems Engineering, within manufacturing.
  • Participate in internal and external service activities such as editorial/peer review, career mentoring for students and junior faculty, and serving on departmental, college and university committees.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Doctoral Degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Currently hold a tenured full professor rank position.
  • 12 years of research experience subsequent to the PhD in academia, government or industry in the area of Mechanical, Materials, or Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field.

Interested candidates should create an Applicant Profile at http://jobs.uc.edu (Requisition #99975) and upload a current CV/Resume and cover letter summarizing their qualifications for and interest in the position. Under the 'Additional Documents' section, interested candidates should also upload a Statement of Research (5 page maximum), a Statement of Teaching Philosophy (3 page maximum), a Team Culture Statement (a 1-page statement describing your perspective on building a positive team culture), as well as names and contact information for at least five references. References will only be contacted for those candidates who are selected as finalists. Further documentation may be separately requested by the search committee at a later date.
