Child & Family Support Worker

Employment Term: Maximum Term to 30 June 2027, Full-Time (76 hours per fortnight)

Location: Central Queensland, Rockhampton, Emerald, Brisbane / Hybrid - Travel will be required to outback and western Queensland. When not on placement, the Support Worker can work from home.

Your part in our UnitingCare team

The Child and Family Support Worker with the Rural Family Care Service will offer a holistic response to geographically isolated children, and families accessing the Remote Family Care Service, including short term intervention, information, advice and referral.

This is a remote service delivery role that is predominantly delivered in remote locations resulting in approximately 70% of work hours spent travelling and residing in family settings to deliver early education and parenting support services. In this role, you'll travel with Remote Family Care Service educators to rural properties and stay on the property with families from 5-10 days at a time.

This role will involve:

  • Working alongside Early Years Educators to offer a holistic response to the family unit as a whole.
  • Offer clients practical, informative referrals as required and respond to the perceived and expressed needs of families.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other service providers, governmental departments and community based agencies to facilitate family and child-focused outcomes.
  • This position will offer a holistic response to vulnerable children, young people and families accessing the Rural Family Support program, including short term intervention, information, advice and referral
  • Conduct needs assessments and coordinate case management plans
  • Providing parenting support, parenting programs, early childhood development screening and assessment

Please note: Screening and assessment training will be provided to the successful applicant.

What makes a difference for us?

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Community Services, Human Services or related field.
  • Sound understanding of the physical, emotional, cognitive and social aspects of child development as well as recognition of the individual needs of children aged birth to Twelve years.
  • Sound understanding of early intervention and prevention support for families, including those with multiple and complex issues.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Current QLD Drivers License
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
  • Must have the ability to travel within Outback and Western Queensland.
