As an Associate Director of Actuarial Services on the UHG Trend Analytics team, you will play a key role in forecasting medical expenses for the Exchange business, while also supporting broader forecasting efforts across other businesses (e.g., Student Resources, Level Funded) and enterprise-wide analytics. This role is responsible for contributing to the development of medical trend forecasts using standardized, best-in-class methodologies to ensure consistent and accurate cost forecasting across UnitedHealth Group. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in healthcare data analysis, collaboration, and at least 5 years of relevant actuarial experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Associate Director in this role will work with detailed health care claims data to support medical expense analytics and forecasting.

  • Lead the development of quarterly medical expense forecasting for the Exchange business
  • Support forecasting and analytics across additional businesses (e.g., Student Resources, Level Funded) and cross-segment initiatives, as needed
  • Design and implement analytic methods that promote consistency with enterprise-wide medical cost forecasting standards
  • Collaborate closely with finance, operations, and other analytic teams to drive transparency and alignment in medical trend measurement and forecasts
  • Present forecasts, insights, and key drivers to senior leadership
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline, automate, and enhance existing processes
  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to team development
  • Support ad hoc analyses related to medical expense trends and cross-business insights

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Credentialed Actuary (FSA or ASA)
  • 6+ years of healthcare actuarial experience with increasing leadership responsibility
  • 2+ years of experience as a people and/or project manager
  • Experience developing standard analytic methodologies
  • Advanced proficiency with data tools such as Excel/SAS/SQL/Power BI
  • Demonstrated expertise with healthcare claims data analysis
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present technical findings effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Healthcare Consulting
  • Proven solid organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrixed organization
  • Located where you can regularly commute to the Optum campus in Eden Prairie, MN

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
