Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Our Managers, Engineering & Facilities are champions of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned):
Performance
- Serve as the Distribution Center’s troubleshooting expert and technical resources during equipment escalations. Coordinate resources to quickly resolve equipment downtime
- Maintain comprehensive technical subject matter expertise of existing Ulta material handling systems and technology specifications. This includes varying types of package and pallet conveyors, sortation systems and other specialty equipment
- Assess and modify systems where system performance does not meet operational expectations and design specifications in close partnership with operational and technical experts
- Serve as the SME for Ulta electronics equipment such as Print and Apply labeling technology, put-to-light systems, Radio Frequency (RF) devices, cameras and scanners
- Deliver complete facilities maintenance service within budget, meeting all contracted KPI’s. Manage and monitor the performance of their directly employed teams to ensure they meet required standards and KPIs.
- Monitor the performance/relationship and budgets of all maintenance vendors used by the business.
- Meet regularly with the Operations Managers, communicating all on-going maintenance activities, and updating on current project works.
- Liaise with key suppliers to ensure that parts supply and subcontracted services are delivered to within acceptable standard, and to budget.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicator (KPI) areas on a monthly basis including:
- Repair Time
- Response time
- Budgetary control and tacking of revenue parts and subcontractor spend
- Ensure all operational areas operate within a safe workplace and adhere to company health and safety policies and procedures as well as meeting stated aims and KPI’s.
- Promote and develop the competencies of our technical and non-technical team members
- Effectively lead and manage the non-exempt team to ensure delivery of prescribed deliverables
- Conduct periodic inspections of company equipment including high value tools and equipment and vehicles
- Manage all other site maintenance requirements, across a wide range of disciplines, through company approved vendors
- Implement and rollout corrective action plans through direct teams and vendors to address instances of poor service
- Identify and recruit vacancies within their directly employed operating structure
- Provide suitable out of hours, emergency call-out cover to premises managers

- Be a collaborative business advisor and partner to the Distribution & Supply Chain Team, fostering a culture of open communication, providing insight and support while building key relationships across Ulta

- Protects Company assets by following loss prevention best practices and procedures
- Manages operations to maximize efficiencies and productivity, optimize labor cost expenditures, and ensure safe operating practices
- Develops strategic direction and establishes appropriate priorities for projects critical to success
- Ensures that all organizational activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations, and interacts with regulatory officials as required
- Assesses organizational and operational effectiveness, while advocating process and technology changes/enhancements that will improve operating processes and performance
- Continually evolve the team through introduction and deployment of industry leading practices
- Build and maintain the process required to transition application functionality from the development to the steady state support team
- Participate in the definition of project scope, business requirements documents, goals, and deliverables
- Executes other tasks as directed
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines with a controls emphasis or equivalent work experience
Experience
- Experience with and knowledge of motion control (preferably material handling systems), systems integration and maintenance
- 3 or more years engineering experience supporting, commissioning and troubleshooting PLC/PC industrial control systems (Siemens, Rockwell Systems/Allen Bradley, Square D) and their industrial networks (DeviceNet, SDS and Profibus, Ethernet I/O)
- Experience using SCADA Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) such as Visual Logic Controller (VLC) or various Wonderware applications

- Experience building technology support and deployment strategies
- Significant experience in CAPEX, engineering management, and large project engineering management for facilities, production operations, and material handling equipment management.

- Developing budgets and methods to save expenses and increase efficiencies
- Must be a self-starter and be able to successfully develop and execute against departmental goals with minimal guidance
- Ability to manage and drive accountability across an integrated team in a production support environment.
- Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with associates and all levels of management.

Special Position Requirements
- Ability to adjust work schedule according to the business needs
- Ability to work additional hours with little or no notice
- Occasional travel to other distribution centers in the network
The pay range for this position is $84,600.00 - $105,900.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company's bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits. Part-time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
