As the Engineering Manager for Data Services, you will be a primary architect and leader of the ecosystem that powers TrueML's intelligence. We are currently in a phase of purposeful scaling, and we need your leadership to bridge the gap between raw infrastructure and actionable insights.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Data, you will oversee our data platform strategy, DataOps, and real-time streaming capabilities. You will help address key architectural gaps, drive the modernization of our data tooling, and guide your team through platform migrations. Your goal is to champion data integrity and technical excellence while leading a world-class team during this period of deliberate expansion.
In this role, you will manage and modernize a complex data ecosystem, helping transition from legacy frameworks to modern data architectures:
The Data Streaming Platform: Common Event Bus (CEB) architecture, Confluent Kafka, and legacy CDC & debezium tooling.
Relational databases (Normalized Db for Collectr data) and legacy Collectr Data Services (including Repos, Panda Express, Debtor Events Service, ElasticSearch clusters, and TaskRunner).
What You'll Do
Empower a Talented Team: Lead, manage, and mentor a group of data engineers, fostering their career development and establishing a strong engineering mindset focused on vertical delivery alignment.
Lead Event Bus Architecture: Own the strategic design, development, and evolution of the Common Event Bus (CEB) architecture to ensure resilient, scalable, and company-wide real-time data distribution.
Drive Platform Modernization: Actively manage technical debt and guide the team through migrations from legacy processing frameworks and data services into a modernized data stack.
Collaborate Strategically: Partner cross-functionally with Data Science, Product, and business stakeholders to translate complex business needs into efficient, well-documented data models.
Maintain Technical Excellence: Perform high-impact code reviews, optimize data pipelines, and provide critical guidance on performance and scalability.
Balance Leadership with Craft: Contribute directly to development work and troubleshooting alongside your team when critical mission-focused needs arise.
Who You Are
An Experienced Leader: You have 2+ years of hands-on engineering management experience and a proven track record of growing technical teams through coaching and mentorship.
A Master of the Stack: You possess advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or Golang, alongside expert-level SQL skills.
A Systems Thinker: You have extensive experience designing data platforms, real-time streaming pipelines, and workflow systems, including owning SLAs for critical production processes.
An Elite Communicator: You are a natural bridge-builder who can translate deep technical hurdles into clear, actionable updates for business partners and cross-functional stakeholders.
Purpose-Driven: You thrive in environments that value intentional progress and are excited to mature a data ecosystem from legacy frameworks into a modern, scalable stack.

7+ years of total experience in Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Software Engineering.
2+ years of experience explicitly in a leadership or management role.
Proven experience executing data platform migrations and managing technical debt.
