As a data engineer, you'll work collaboratively with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts across various business initiatives, leveraging massive datasets pivotal to the company's operations. Your efforts will support multiple teams in reporting, bidding, and experimentation on data pipelines. This role requires effective communication with software engineers responsible for generating data and a deep passion for data engineering. We seek candidates with a robust engineering background, a technical mindset, and a keen interest in the business implications of their work. Be a part of trivago's Content team and proactively contribute to a product that is used by millions of people each day
Create deeper understanding and insights for our data using technologies like GCP Cloud Functions, Apache Beam, Kafka and Kubernetes, while leveraging Computer Vision
Design and build data pipelines on GCP that can handle billions of events in batch and real-time processing
Take ownership and contribute with your own judgement on how to bring the best and most relevant data to our users so they can make smart decisions on their next hotel booking
Work closely with stakeholders and other teams to map business requirements into technical solutions that have a real and measurable impact

7+ years of programming experience with any language, preferably Python.
Experience building data pipelines and production-level software at scale
Experience with GCP technologies like Dataflow, BigQuery, BigTable, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.
A genuine interest in DevOps topics/concepts (test automation, CI/CD, infrastructure as code etc.)
Profound knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
Passion for working with terabytes of data and the challenges associated with dealing with large volumes of it.
A problem solver with sense for code quality, iterated deliveries, pragmatism and stability
The ability to present complex topics in plain English to non-technical peers and stakeholders.

Experience in implementing robust APIs to serve backends, preferably in Python.
Hands-on experience in distributed systems and/or streaming data technologies
Extensive experience in writing and maintaining production-grade Python applications
Familiarity with Data Science concepts such as Machine Learning and building infrastructure for them.
Experience (or a keen interest) in working with image processing.
