Mechanical Project Engineer

The purpose of the Mechanical Project Engineer role is to identify, evaluate and coordinate the design and implementation of capital and expense improvement projects working with manufacturing teams, engineering personnel, R&D representatives and other in-plant or outside technical resources to complete projects.

They handle the organizational and administrative work involved in project implementation in the plant and are directly responsible for adhering to the plant capital budget. Project work is typically driven by turnaround time, capacity improvements, reliability, mechanical inspections, process safety and general plant health & safety initiatives.

Often the mechanical projects engineer participates in various safety and process safety related activities such as Process Hazard Analysis, Management of Changes (MOCs), Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews and MI programs. They support BBS (Behavior Base Safety) process by performing observations, Loss Control policy, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and other management systems.

This will be an onsite role in Bristol, PA.

Responsibilities

  • 40%: Fulfill the role of project manager for plant capital and expense projects to meet the yearly budget commitments following the Global Project Methodology. This will include:
    • The supervision and support for project manager’s designee.
    • Fill the role of mechanical engineering.
    • Put together and present expense reports and budget forecast plan.
  • 30%: Identifies, evaluates and define improvement opportunities directed to increase the mechanical reliability of the manufacturing equipment and other equipment related with plant infrastructure/operations.
  • 20%: Manage the mechanical integrity (MI) inspection program, that will include:
    • Prepare and implement the yearly MI inspection schedule.
    • Implement the remediations recommended on MI reports through capex or expense projects.
    • Create and update MI related documents based on Trinseo practices.
  • 10%: Support the safety programs and initiatives directed by HE&S department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited program
  • 5+ years of engineering (e.g. improvement, maintenance, mechanical reliability, projects) experience in chemical industry environment required.
  • Self-motivated, capable decision-maker that can effectively influence others
  • Project management skills - Stage Gate Project Development process preferred
  • Knowledge of Process Safety – Mechanical Integrity, LPPs, Layers of Project, etc. is a plus
  • Capital Project Management experience
  • Ability to learn and use SAP programs and reports.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability and skill to understand
