Job Title: HVAC Technician

This position is Full Time (40 hrs./wk.) and will work Afternoon Shift. Location: Trinity Health Ann Arbor

Position Purpose: Operates, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on air conditioning equipment (chilled water and or direct expansion), air handling equipment, DDC and pneumatic controls, cooling towers, electric motors, gas fired boilers and furnaces, heat pumps, ice machines, kitchen equipment, packaged roof top units, pumps, refrigeration equipment, steam traps and valves as associated with but not limited to the building's mechanical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Service and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration, Chillers, Cooling Towers, and associated systems components e.g. controls, pumps, valves, fans, motors, VFD's, VAV boxes or Terminal equipment.
  • Service and maintain all refrigeration equipment including reach-in, walk-in coolers, ice machines, Ultra-low temp freezers, and all other refrigeration units.
  • Service and maintain all Air Compressors and associated equipment including air driers and pressure controls.
  • Service and maintain Roof Top Units, including gas fired units.
  • Service and maintain boilers, including Hi Pressure steam boilers, condensing hot water heating boilers, Domestic water heaters/boilers etc…Including all ancillary equipment, PRV's, steam traps, stop/isolation valves, control valves (pneumatic, electric or DDC), and direct steam humidifiers.
  • Respond to all HVAC complaints and provide excellent customer service.
  • Service and maintain all ventilation equipment including fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, exhaust fans, VAV boxes, CV boxes, fan coil units, AHU's, return fans, and MU air units. Testing and balancing of Air flows and measuring of room pressure relationships.
  • Perform all seasonal maintenance to Chillers, including punching tubes, condenser water strainers, and Cooling Tower shutdowns and startups.
  • Maintain daily water treatment systems, testing of water samples and data logging in analysis databases and adjusting chemical levels.
  • Use of all proper Personal Protective Equipment in accordance to company policies and good safe practice.
  • Maintain and use record keeping in a computer maintenance software system, including asset records and time allocation.
  • Proper handling and knowledge of different refrigerants, including blends and low pressure refrigerants.
  • Proper use of precision equipment for alignment of shafts, sheaves and any other mechanical components.
  • Repair and diagnosis of pumps, including motor replacements, mechanical seal replacements, flow device repair and VFD operation.
  • Competent in use of Building Automation System for monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining all systems.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
  • Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH.
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to backfill shifts in the Power Plant as Stationary Engineer

Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, trade school or higher learning very helpful

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of industry experience. Familiarity with DDC, Building Automation Systems e.g. Metasys, Siemens, Andover, Preferred Instruments, TempTrak, etc… Prior Healthcare or Hospital setting work preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Certification/Licensure: Candidates must possess or be able to obtain select certifications: First Class Refrigeration (City of Dearborn or Detroit) and or State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor License Classifications Unlimited Ref/AC Service; EPA refrigerant handling certification (Universal); High Pressure Boiler Operator's License (City of Dearborn or Detroit)
