OR Service Line Coordinator (RN)

The OR Service Line Coordinator (RN) is an experienced perioperative registered nurse responsible for clinical operations readiness and coordination for one or more defined surgical service lines (e.g., Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Neuro, Spine, Robotics). This role serves as the clinical and operational subject matter expert for assigned specialties, ensuring readiness across people, processes, equipment, supplies, and physician engagement.

This position does not have direct reports and is not a people leader. Instead, the role focuses on service line optimization, standardization, and collaboration across perioperative teams and key partners to support safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care.

FUNCTIONAL ROLE:

RN III – Senior: Practice is guided by nursing process & policy / procedure / standards. Maintains focused area of expertise for care / program & / or provides interventions or knowledge within niche areas of care / program; Advances professional / shared governance, collaborates inter & intra-professionally, delegates to others to advance care, assumes an expanded role & increased responsibility; Able to lead a small team; Serve as a unit / service / program nursing practice mentor & identify learning need of others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Mission & Values Alignment: Demonstrates Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in all behaviors, practices, and decisions.

  • Perioperative Nursing Practice: Independently performs perioperative nursing functions to ensure safe, efficient patient care, including aseptic practice, case preparation, equipment readiness, room turnover, and accurate documentation.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, surgeons, anesthesia, and OR team members; supports education, training, and performance improvement.

  • Service Line Clinical & Operational Leadership: Serves as clinical operations lead for assigned service lines, ensuring end-to-end procedural readiness and proactively addressing risks or gaps.

  • Preference Card & Standardization Oversight: Maintains and optimizes surgeon preference cards, partnering with surgeons, SPD, and Supply Chain to drive standardization, efficiency, and patient safety.

  • Equipment, Implant & Product Management: Ensures readiness of specialty equipment, implants, and new technologies; participates in product evaluations, trials, and value analysis.

  • Surgeon & Interdisciplinary Liaison: Acts as a trusted liaison between surgeons and perioperative teams to support new procedures, technologies, and operational improvements.

  • Cost Stewardship & Waste Reduction: Identifies opportunities to reduce waste, improve utilization, and support cost-effective care while maintaining quality and safety.

  • Education & Change Support: Supports competency validation and serves as a clinical resource during implementation of new procedures, products, and workflows.

  • Regulatory & Ethical Compliance: Maintains working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies to ensure ethical, professional practice.

  • Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's in nursing (MSN) preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of perioperative nursing experience including specialty service line experience Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) Certification preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in surgical workflows, instrumentation, and perioperative processes Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with robotics, advanced specialty procedures, or emerging surgical technologies preferred.

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Performs duties that may involve exposure to hazardous substances and is subject to normal risks associated with handling of narcotics.

  • In patient care areas, may perform or demonstrate patient care tasks which may expose the clinical nurse to infectious or communicable disease, or possibility of injury from irrational or confused patients and visitors or from instruments or equipment. Lift/Carry; Push/Pull 76-100% of the time, avg 50-100 lbs.

  • Stand; Walk/Move About 76-100% of the time

  • Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures
