Job Description:
Summary: Provides personal, academic, and career advising to potential and current program participants/students. Conducts individual and group workshops. Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure optimum support. Generates and coordinates outreach activities.
Essential Functions:
- Provides academic, career, and personal advising to potential and current program participants/students
- Assists with identifying and selecting new participants
- Develops Educational Plans, monitors participants' progress, refers participants to counseling as needed
- Assists students with completing financial aid and scholarship applications, writing essays, and forming attainable academic and career plans
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all necessary data to ensure compliance with the U.S. Department of Education
- Conducts individual and group program-engagement sessions
- Meets regularly with staff for participant and program evaluations
- Meets with faculty regarding participants' progress and course content/material, as needed
- Works collaboratively with the Student Counseling department to ensure attentive and efficient student referrals when needed
- Assists with the development of the departmental newsletters and other correspondence as needed
- May attend College-wide meetings, workshops, and conferences as directed
- Assists with metric tracking and report preparation
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications Education and Experience/Training:
- Master's Degree in a related field
- Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience advising, counseling, and/or teaching under-prepared students
- Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
- Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations

- Demonstrated basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent program)
- Demonstrated basic BANNER system skills (or equivalent program)
- Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
- Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

- The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
- The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
- Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
- Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
Special Note: This is a grant-funded position.
Target Starting Salary Range: $45,000 to $48,000 The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range, but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).
