Engineering Technician

This position serves as a technical resource to the engineering, manufacturing, and customer service functions. Responsibilities primarily include processing Engineering Change Orders, developing standard and quick response manufacturing (QRM) cost quotes, identifying/implementing new manufacturing technologies, and design of production tooling/fixtures.

This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, good business practices, and company documented procedures (including but not limited to Quality Systems Regulations, ISO 9001/13485, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, and review controlled documents for manufacturing processes.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders.
  • Develop processes with the goal of accurate cost estimation and labor needs.
  • Obtain materials quotes from vendors.
  • Update ERP system with vendor pricing.
  • Create new items within ERP.
  • Communicate with Sales team and direct with customer to resolve any quoting issues.
  • Fabricate First Article assemblies per customer drawings and specifications.
  • Complete First Article Analysis documentation.
  • Create detailed manufacturing processes utilizing customer drawings and specifications.
  • Complete time studies to verify quoted times can be met.
  • Work hands on with the production team to train and implement new products.
  • Support Technical review process.
  • Review customer prints for manufacturability, fit and function; Follow up with customer on any discrepancy providing acceptable options.
  • Recommend alternative components to customers.
  • Cross materials for manufacturability, availability.
  • Fabricate customer assemblies per provided documentation in short lead time scenarios.
  • Document manufacturing methods and note for future reference.
  • Complete quality inspections on assemblies including but not limited to, continuity testing, dimensional analysis, visual inspection, and functional testing.
  • Work with Sales, Production, and Quality groups to communicate schedule, job status, or issues encountered.
  • Support Production Team as technical resource to troubleshoot processing issues.
  • Aide Production Team in wire cutting or assembly, as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiar with reading and interpreting engineering drawings and electromechanical product specifications.
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing and wire/cable processing.
  • Soldering skills required.
  • Ability to effectively write detailed instructions, documents, and processes.
  • Ability to crimp, plug, tin, and assemble wire and cable components.
  • Ability to establish priorities; work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal groups, team members, and individuals.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be able to work independently and productively; able to manage multiple projects.
  • Detail-oriented and work effectively under pressure while meeting all applicable deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in fast paced environment with constant changes in priorities.
  • High level of initiative and strong work ethic.
  • Experience with an ERP system.
  • Experience drafting work instructions.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Four (4) years of experience in wire and cable manufacturing.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in a related field.
  • Wire/cable assembly exposure.
  • Experience with MS Visio, AutoCAD, etc.

Physical Requirements/Capabilities:

  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and the ability to talk and hear.
  • Ability to frequently sit for prolonged amounts of time, stand, walk, reach with hands and arm's length, climb or balance, stoop or bend, push, pull, kneel, and crouch as job requires.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to use a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and discern colors.
  • Good hand eye coordination, good hand dexterity and strength.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel as job requires.
