SQD Principal Engineer Purpose

The Supplier Quality Development (SQD) Principal Engineer is responsible for the tactical and systematic management of supplier quality assurance and development. Driving improvement in supplier performance and provide leadership in managing supplier related issues. The individual is responsible for interfacing with the supply base and conducting supplier control activities to include evaluations, audits, oversight of supplier root cause corrective action activities, and other tasks to ensure that suppliers comply with requirements and deliver conforming product.

As a SQD Principal Engineer you will:

  • Performs supplier audits of suppliers as applicable
  • Drive supplier selection through robust qualification processes
  • Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies, supplier scorecards and own supplier audit, ensuring supplier compliance, whilst driving systematic problem solving and process improvement plans to deliver value.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers
  • Familiarity with prevalent industry Quality Systems & Records.
  • Familiarity with Metrology/Calibration for purposes of audit and measurement system analysis.
  • Develop new processes and techniques at suppliers.
  • Coordinates answers to Supplier Reports and Corrective Actions.
  • Facilitates Root Cause Corrective Action activities with Suppliers as a result of Audit, Compliance, or Product deficiencies or escapes.
  • Leads cross functional teams engaged in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performs various administrative activities related supplier quality information.
  • Independently determines and develops approaches to and solutions compliantly within policies & procedures
  • Leverages experience and knowledge for the improvement of the organization
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to sourcing and development of suppliers with respect to technology, performance, quality, cost, and logistics.
  • Responsible for leading the solution for supplier component concerns, driving Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), customer interaction, supplier interaction, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) support, supplier component development and approval and supplier cost improvements.
  • Performs benchmarking and other forms of advanced analysis to ensure specified processes capability levels are achieved.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Engineer Degree.
  • 5+ years in supplier quality or plant quality responsible.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in sourcing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and project management.
  • SQD experience in manufacturing companies.
  • External Audit Certifications (Preferred)
    • Lead Auditor Certification ISO (Preferred)
    • Lead Auditor Certification IATF (Preferred)
    • Lead Auditor Certification AS9100 (Preferred)
