Data Engineer Opportunity

Tiko is a nonprofit organization that empowers adolescent girls and young women in Sub-Saharan Africa by addressing early pregnancy, HIV, and sexual and gender-based violence. We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team.

Our team is global and dynamic, with offices in South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, the Netherlands, and Portugal. We are open to remote work for this position and welcome applicants from anywhere in Kenya and South Africa.

The Job

You will work with our team to ensure that we can understand past and future data. You will support the overall availability of data to the organization and champion automated data QA testing to ensure data quality, reliability, and integrity across our systems.

Responsibilities:

• Translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Ensure data is readily available from multiple sources.
• Develop and maintain tools to analyze data and identify trends.
• Turn data into clear reports to help local and global teams make decisions.
• Take ownership of implementing and promoting automated data QA testing practices.
• Work in an Agile way as per our teams.

About You

You are a lover of all things data and understand how to gather, analyze, and interpret information. You take pride in data quality and are ready to champion automated data QA testing, driving best practices to ensure data accuracy and reliability. You are used to agile practices and rituals and will join in with the team's way of working.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience working with complex data sets and expertise in data and tools.
• Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
• Previous experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
• Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL).
• SQL and AWS working experience is essential.
• Python, Terraform, and Airflow experience is very beneficial.
• Experience with Lambda, Flyway, SQL, dbt, pgTAP, PostgreSQL, Python, Terraform, and Airflow is essential.
• You have excellent English skills.

The monthly salary bracket for this position is Ksh340,477 - Ksh567,462 gross in Kenya, and R69,602 - R116,003 gross in South Africa, plus benefits.
