Software Engineer - Apigee

An Apigee Software Development Engineer is a technical position responsible for leading the development and implementation of API solutions using the Apigee platform, acting as a subject matter expert for the team, overseeing API design principles, best practices, and ensuring the quality and scalability of API deployments while mentoring junior developers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust API integrations.

About the Role:

In this opportunity as Software Engineer - Apigee, you will:

  • Deep understanding of overall API architecture and ability to define API gateways, security models, throttling mechanisms, and data transformation strategies within the Apigee platform.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, API versioning, and API documentation standards.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language like Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Delivers end-to-end technical solutions for multiple systems or complex projects.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to API performance, security, and integration, acting as L3 contact for production support.
  • Leads routine projects with manageable risks and resource requirements.
  • Solves complex problems with minimal guidance.

About You:

You're a fit for the role of Software Engineer - Apigee if your background includes:

  • Design, develop, configure, and troubleshoot APIs and policies using Apigee.
  • Follow API design principles, best practices, and coding standards to ensure efficient and maintainable API implementations.
  • 2+ years of extensive experience with Apigee platform features, including API proxies, policies, developer portals, and management console.
  • Total 3-5 years of Software Development (and Design) work experience using modern API Gateway (Apigee, MuleSoft, Dell Boomi etc).
  • Ability to do the hands-on development and testing of APIs on the Apigee platform, including configuration of policies, custom JavaScript, and integration with backend systems. Work with vendors/contractors to drive deployment and release activities.
  • Monitor API usage metrics, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies to ensure high availability and scalability. Improve time to resolve issues related to Apigee and assist frontend and backend teams to analyze issues.
  • Ensure APIs adhere to security standards, including authentication, authorization, and data encryption.
  • Documents and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
  • Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.

Other Key Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provides subject matter expertise across sub-units.
