Cockrell School Marketing and Communications, located on the 10th Floor of Ernest Cockrell Jr. Hall, oversees all aspects of the Texas Engineering brand. Our strategists, writers, designers and media and digital pros capture, promote and publicize our story through impactful content that raises the global reputation of our school, departments, centers and programs.

Position Purpose

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will help the Cockrell School of Engineering Marketing and Communications team develop stories that feature engineering students (suggest ideas, interview subjects, write brief copy, capture video/photo, etc.), assist with writing, and support our website projects. As the Marketing and Communications Assistant, you may also work on special projects such as commencement, taking Scraps the robot dog into the community, contributing to Texas Engineer magazine, and student engagement initiatives. You will be able to develop your marketing and communications skills while seeing tangible results.

Job Responsibilities As a Marketing and Communications Assistant, 19.5 hours a week you will…

  • Develop stories to share on our website and social media platforms.
  • Copywriting, copyediting, and proofreading items to be shared online.
  • Assist with building and reviewing pages on our websites using WordPress (no code needed).
  • Attend regular team meetings to discuss projects and updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Your duties are likely to evolve as you gain experience within the department. This is a long-term opportunity that will lead into future semesters (depending on performance). Please note that your weekly hours might vary over the semester depending on workload.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at University of Texas at Austin.
  • Experience with journalistic writing/copywriting/editing/proofreading.
  • Experience editing a website and building pages within a CMS, preferably WordPress.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous video/photo content experience.
  • Experience with website best practices.
  • Experience with student engagement.

Salary Range
