Facility Operations Lead Technologist

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as a Facility Operations Lead Technologist in the Advanced Cellular Therapeutics department. Here, you will perform operations within the Hematopoietic Cellular Therapy Program, we support both the adult and pediatric programs, and provide our patients the latest cellular therapy products for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases. This department is the Apheresis/Cell Processing Laboratory. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Facility Operations Lead Technologist in the Advanced Cellular Therapeutics Facility (ACT Facility) functions as a hospital staff member, under the direction of a lab manager and director, is responsible for proper functioning of the physical space of the new cellular therapeutics facility, in accordance with FDA regulations and ISO 14644 (ISO 7/8) standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Environmental monitoring functions (air quality, viable/non-viable particle counting, pressures, humidity, temp)
  • Validation of all medical equipment for the intended purpose
  • Tracking all medical equipment maintenance issues
  • Inventory management for all supplies and reagents
  • Overseeing third party service agreements
  • Proper calibration of all medical equipment on a daily basis
  • Assisting preparation of the master validation plan of the physical space and equipment for submission to the FDA
  • Collecting and compiling data and preparing monthly reports of trending data from environmental monitoring for submission to the FDA when requested during unannounced site visits and during clinical trial protocol submission

Required Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree in life sciences
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience related to Cellular Therapy
  • Adaptability to multiple, changing demands is essential and requires exceptional organizational skills and ability to work under potential stressful scenarios
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to deal with multi-disciplinary team, patients, and outside collaborators
  • Ability to act in a professional manner with individuals at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and in team efforts
  • Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment
  • Considerable skill in maintaining records and files
  • Possess good analytical capabilities
  • Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge working under ISO 7 / ISO 8 environmental conditions

  • Shift: Day Shift (8:30 am - 5:00 pm), Monday-Friday, some on-call for equipment needs within the lab

Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
