Job Title
The Community Corrections Support Worker will act as a member of the Community Residential Facility Department team, exchanging information to the case management team, assisting residents with their needs, and ensuring that the facility's rounds, curfews, and check-ins are completed according to CRF policy.
The Salvation Army Community-Based Residential Facility (CRF) is a federal half-way house and its clientele work on a system of gradual, supervised release while they reside at the facility. The CRF's priority is to assist and empower parolees - while managing their risk - to integrate them into the community and assist them in becoming self-sufficient and independent.
The job description includes:
- Developing an intimate working knowledge of correctional service of Canada (CSC) statement of work, CRF policy and procedure manual, and in-house CRF rules, with all actions based on strict adherence to policy.
- Maintaining the confidentiality of all CRF and ARC clientele.
- Receiving all clients and residents in a professional manner.
- Monitoring access to and security of the CRF/ARC.
- Maintaining a calm and secure atmosphere in the residence through a quiet, unobtrusive presence.
- Conducting regular rounds of the CRF/ARC as described in the CRF guidelines and policies and procedures.
- Conducting CRF bed checks as per CRF guidelines and policies and procedures.
- Conducting and monitoring the sign in and out sheets belonging to each CRF resident.
- Recording pertinent information in the CRF duty log and case administration management system.
- Communicating with Victoria Parole, National Monitoring Centre (NMC), and Victoria Police as necessary and documenting situations and incidents.
- Enforcing CRF in-house rules and parole conditions, according to the Policy and Procedures manual and the Statement of Work.
- Properly filing all CRF/CSC documents in accordance with Policy & Procedures.
- Maintaining an accurate medication access log.
- Recording observed maintenance needs in accordance with the ARC procedures.
- Ensuring that the Intake office is clean and organized to ARC standards.
- Attending all CRF staff meetings, seminars, and training as directed.
- Providing transportation at the direction of the CRF Director/Designate.
- Performing light janitorial duties when required.
- May be assigned other related duties according to the CRF's needs.
- Being prepared to participate in upgrading/training at the discretion of CRF Management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Must possess a High School Degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of six months of education in related field (Criminology, Sociology, Social Justice, Psychology, Counselling, Social Work etc) required.
- Clear TB Skin test required.
- Occupational First Aid level 1 or equivalent.
- Enhanced reliability clearance through Correctional Service of Canada.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention training an asset.
- Minimum of six (6) months of related experience.
- Previous work experience in community corrections, probation, or parole an asset.
- Experience working with individuals struggling with addiction, substance abuse issues, and related behavioral challenges required.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
- Ability to work with a diverse clientele possessing a range of needs and barriers.
- Ability to discern baseline behaviors and any deviations concerning substance use or mental health.
- Must possess adequate typing skills and be computer literate.
- Must have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be confident in ability to utilize de-escalation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention skills.
- Must be punctual, organized, and able to adjust to operational demands.
- Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards.
- Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural differences.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $26.95 to $27.45 with a maximum of $27.95. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
