Peer Support Worker - Journey To Social Inclusion

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.

About the role:

As a Peer Support Worker - Journey to Social Inclusion this is your opportunity to utilise your personal experience and perspective of lived or living experience to support clients of the J2SI Program and break down the barriers of client engagement. You will work collaboratively with Case Managers and other team members to support clients to identify and achieve set goals and outcomes.

Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent part-time role offering 22.8 hours, located in Geelong, VIC.

How you will make an impact:

  • Use lived experience to build effective relationships support client goals encourage participation and engagement and share relevant information with the team
  • Guide clients to connect with community establish a home build skills receive emotional support and transition from homelessness to stable housing
  • Advocate for clients identify risks follow safety procedures and contribute to service improvements
  • Maintain accurate client records participate in meetings support a positive team environment and contribute to organisational planning
  • Engage in regular supervision training and professional development to support ongoing growth

What you will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Peer Work, Community Services, Mental Health, AOD or a related field (desirable)
  • A lived or living experience of resettling in a home after experiencing homelessness (essential)
  • A strong commitment to social justice, human rights and client centered practice
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with vulnerable people with a history of complexities in areas such as homelessness, alcohol and other drugs, mental health, disability, and family violence.
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence and employee Working with Children's Check

Conditions:

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 3
