Peer Support Worker

About the Role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Peer Support Worker to support clients to identify and achieve set outcomes. Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent, part-time (22.8 hours per week) position based in Surry Hills, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Crisis Award, Level 1. Please note that this is a service-based role that could include 24-hour shift work (Days, afternoon, nights and weekends, public holidays).

How You Will Make an Impact

  1. Support the implementation of the Homelessness Stream Model of Care that underpins services across the country and defines expectations and standards for those we serve, our partners and allies, and the Australian community.

  2. Provide information to assist in assessing and addressing client issues, needs and circumstances.

  3. Establish effective relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation and support them to improve their situation.

  4. Support clients to achieve their identified goals/objective per case plans (in accordance with TSA model of care).

  5. Explore and assist in the creation of additional activities and opportunities for client engagement.

  6. Advocate for the clients where necessary and have input into policy and procedures.

  7. Identify risks to clients, staff and The Salvation Army and bring them to the attention of the relevant supervisor as soon as possible.

What You Will Bring

  • A qualification in Community Services, Mental Health, AOD or similar (desirable).

  • A current NSW Employee Working with Children Check.

  • A Senior First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
