Aod Support Worker

The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia's largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

As an AOD Support Worker, this is your opportunity to provide practical and emotional support and facilitation of program engagement to the Residential Rehabilitation participants, who have alcohol and/or other drug (AOD) use problems to assist in meeting the holistic needs of participants to improve their health and wellbeing.

Reporting to the Support Work Coordinator, this role is Fixed Term contracted until June 2026. You will be working 22.5 hours per week located at the Eastern Bridge Program based in The Basin, VIC.

How you will make an impact:

  • Possess an understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged individuals, with the ability to assess risk, respond to crises, and apply appropriate communication and intervention strategies within the AOD sector.
  • Carry out routine responsibilities including drug and alcohol testing, assisting with medication, managing participant attendance, transport, and ensuring compliance with daily schedules.
  • Support program delivery by facilitating group sessions, maintaining accurate records, reporting incidents, participating in handovers and team meetings, and contributing to service improvements.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development, participate in supervision and training, stay informed of current practices, and engage participants through social activities and supervised outings.

What you will bring:

  • Degree qualification in social work, psychology, addiction counselling or related discipline (Desirable)
  • Certificate IV (or equivalent) in the application of AOD interventions or the four competencies (Preferred)
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent, minimum. Diploma preferred.
  • Relevant experience in in a social service environment and AOD sector
  • Experience working vulnerable people of diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs
  • Certification in First Aid (HLTAID001) and CPR (HLTAID009)

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Level 4
