The Darmstadt location is responsible for marketing and sales, service, and support of Thermo Fisher's life sciences products. On-site, the sales inside service, the customer contact center for the EMEA region, and a large laboratory area for product training are located. The Life Technologies GmbH includes about 340 employees who take care of our customers in the outside and inside service. Under our well-known core brands Thermo Scientific, Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Gibco, and Ion Torrent, we distribute more than 50,000 products for scientific research and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. As a Field Service Engineer / Service Technician (M/W/D) at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of our systems and instruments for genetic analysis in our customers' laboratories. In this position, you will mainly support our customers in the NRW/Rhine-Main area. Deployments in other regions of Germany as well as in the European foreign countries are occasionally possible. Customer support is carried out from the place of residence (preferably the Bonn area).
A day in the life:
- As a service engineer, you provide high-quality service services within internal quality standards as well as the guidelines and processes of our customers.
- This means: installation (including technical training), maintenance, repair, verification, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of our laboratory equipment portfolio in the customer's laboratory to ensure the safe and efficient use of the devices.
- You carry out quality assurance measures and document them (IQOQ, OQPQ, CSV, etc.) precisely and in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- You support our customers on site and remotely through telephone support, error analysis, diagnostics, and user training – with the aim of enabling users to use our devices safely and independently.
- You plan, coordinate, and prioritize your work processes independently and coordinate closely with internal teams, external partners, and customers.
- In addition, you create timely and detailed reports on your activities – e.g., service, installation, and expense reports – and thus contribute to transparency and traceability.
- You identify recurring technical issues or improvement potentials and actively contribute suggestions to continuously improve the customer experience and system performance.
The key to success:
Education
- Completed technical or scientific vocational training, preferably in the electrical or medical technology sector, or a comparable qualification
Skills, abilities, competencies:
- Ideally, you have experience in a relevant service function with life sciences or medical devices
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team, with excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Positive, customer-oriented demeanor and strong communication skills in German as well as good English skills
- Secure use of digital tools, service software, mobile applications, and modern technologies
- Enthusiasm for the use of digital and AI-supported solutions to continuously improve service processes
- High willingness to travel (up to 75–100%) as well as willingness to work in the home office
- Valid driver's license class B
