Head Of Engineering

The Collecting Group (TCG) isn't your average company; we're a team of culture curators who live and breathe cars and watches. We're not just disrupting the auction industry, we're redefining it. Our brands, Collecting Cars and Watch Collecting, are already leading the pack, but we're just getting started. We're seeking a Head of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering function as we grow.

This role will be central to shaping our technology strategy, expanding and empowering our engineering team to deliver at scale, and delivering products that delight customers while supporting ambitious business goals.

A key part of the role will be supporting and coaching the team, up-skilling engineers, creating clear progression pathways, and fostering an environment where people can do their best work. You'll champion a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.

This role also carries responsibility for giving the company and stakeholders confidence that engineering is operating at its best - focused on the right priorities, delivering measurable outcomes, and safeguarding the platform.

You'll ensure our systems remain resilient, secure, and scalable, building the trust and stability that enable the business and our customers to grow with confidence.

Lead, mentor, and coach engineering managers and senior engineers, providing clarity, support, and direction.

Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration.

Own recruitment, retention, and career development across the engineering team, building clear progression paths and a great working environment.

Lead the exploration and adoption of AI technologies across the business, providing strategic guidance, technical leadership, and thought leadership to ensure AI is leveraged responsibly to drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage.

Define and drive the technical strategy and architecture to support product and business goals.

Ensure delivery of high-quality, secure, scalable, and reliable software that customers and stakeholders can trust.

Implement and champion best practices in agile development, CI/CD, testing, and release management.

Partner with Product and Design leadership to prioritise work and deliver against company OKRs.

Provide transparency and confidence to the executive team and stakeholders on progress, challenges, and priorities.

Ensure engineering is focused on the right work, aligned to business outcomes, and operating at its best.

Define and track engineering KPIs (velocity, quality, uptime, cost efficiency) to continually improve delivery.

Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and tooling decisions effectively.

Safeguard the business, platform, and customers by embedding resilience and security into everything the team builds.

Translate company strategy into a clear and actionable engineering roadmap.

Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term technical investments (performance, scalability, security).

Champion innovation and evaluate emerging technologies to keep the business ahead.

5+ years' experience leading and scaling engineering teams, ideally including managing managers as well as senior engineers.

Demonstrable experience in a product-led environment, working closely with Product and Design to deliver measurable outcomes.

Background in building and scaling consumer-facing digital products, with a focus on usability, performance, and trust.

Strong communicator with proven ability to set expectations, influence stakeholders, and work cross-functionally across multiple parts of a business.

Experience in online marketplaces or transactional platforms is desirable but not essential.

Track record of implementing engineering best practices (agile, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring) in high-growth environments. Experience balancing short-term delivery with long-term technical investments (scalability, resilience, security).

Proven ability to recruit, coach, and develop high-performing engineering teams, creating clear career paths and strong team culture.

Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for protecting platforms, data, and customers.

Commercial awareness, with experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and ROI from tooling/technology choices.

This is a hybrid role where you will be required to come into our office based in Parsons Green, London. You'll need full UK working rights (sorry, we're unable to provide sponsorship for this position).

25 days holiday (plus an additional day each year after 2 years tenure).

Private medical insurance for you and your family with Vitality.

Company pension contribution.

Access to professional development resources and opportunities.

Annual Learning & Development budget to support your professional growth.

Monthly social budget to enjoy team activities and build connections.

If you are an experienced Head of Engineering with a passion for cars, watches, and shaping the future of digital platforms, we want to hear from you.
