Campus Support Officer (39 Weeks Tto)

We are seeking a vigilant and proactive term-time only Campus Support Officer to ensure the safety, security, and wellbeing of students, staff, visitors, and property across the college campus. The Campus Support Officer plays a vital frontline role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment that is conducive to teaching and learning, while upholding college policies, safeguarding principles, and emergency procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring entry and exit points, checking ID badges, ensuring only authorized individuals enter the college.
  2. Regularly patrolling corridors during non-peak times to identify and address potential security issues.
  3. Maintaining clear communication with students, staff, and visitors, as well as reporting incidents to management or the authorities.
  4. Building positive relationships with students to foster a safe and supportive environment.
  5. Promoting a positive and respectful college culture.
  6. Responding to incidents such as fire alarm activations, intruder alarm activations, first aid incidents, or lockdown situations, working with college staff and emergency services.
  7. Ensuring adherence to college policies, which may involve conflict resolution, de-escalation, and reporting incidents.
  8. Support the enforcement of college behavior policies, including smoking, loitering, or anti-social conduct.
  9. Conducting searches of individuals when appropriate, following college procedures.
  10. Assisting with the supervision of student behavior in communal areas during peak times, such as lunch breaks.
  11. Acting as a keyholder to assist with the opening of college buildings, including unlocking doors and un-setting alarms.
  12. Supporting evacuation procedures and acting as a fire marshal during emergencies, if required.
  13. To actively support and implement the 'One College, One Mindset' initiative.
  14. To support any key cross college activities such as enrolment, open evenings, and recruitment events.
  15. To follow departmental policies and procedures and operate within service standards at all times.
  16. To adhere to organizational policies and procedures such as GDPR, equality, and financial regulations.
  17. To carry out such other relevant and appropriate duties within the framework of a post of this grade that may from time to time be required at a location determined by the needs of the service.
  18. To make full use of new technology in all aspects of job requirements.
  19. To participate fully in:

    Skills, knowledge, and expertise:

    Essential criteria:

    1. Experience of working in a security role
    2. Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
    3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    4. Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
    5. Flexible attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team
    6. Comfortable using IT systems for reporting and monitoring
    7. Organized and observant
    8. Confident in handling incidents and using de-escalation techniques
    9. A proactive and vigilant approach to safety and security
    10. Experience of working in a customer-oriented environment
    11. Good inter-personal skills with the ability to answer enquiries and deal with all customers in a friendly and efficient manner
    12. Ability to show an understanding of, and commitment to college policies and procedures. Particularly equality and diversity
    13. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues, and for themselves
    14. Positive personality – self-motivated
    15. Willingness to assist and interact with internal and external stakeholders
    16. Clear personal commitment of meeting and surpassing customer expectations
    17. Be committed to their own personal development
    18. Desirable criteria:

      1. Experience working in an education environment
      2. Understanding and an awareness of an educational environment
      3. First aid and/or fire marshal training certificate
