System Engineer Position

Thales Norway develops and delivers world-leading software and hardware solutions in cryptography, secure communication, and technology for critical infrastructure that supports nations' defense and NATO. Together with Kongsberg Defence Communication AS, which is part of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, we are establishing a new joint venture company – Kongsberg Thales Defence Communication AS (KTDC). The company will be owned 50/50 by KONGSBERG and THALES and will bring together strong professional communities in secure communications and cybersecurity solutions.

As a result of increasing project volume, we are now looking for several skilled System Engineers. In the role of System Engineer, you will work within Thales' own communication products for the defense sector. Our products in voice communication are used in the air defense control and warning system, and are helping to protect vital security interests nationally and internationally.

Thales has well-established processes and methods for development, as well as modern tools and development environments. Our system engineers work closely with both developers and testers.

Your role

As a System Engineer, you will have a central role in the development of our solutions, and be an important link between customer, system, and development. You will work through the entire lifecycle, from idea and concept development to final delivery.

You will become part of a team that realizes real-time services on various communication platforms, and contribute to the further development of concepts into robust, finished products.

Responsibilities and key tasks

  • Close cooperation with customers regarding requirements and needs
  • Analyze customer requirements and needs, and breakdown of requirements into system design
  • Contribute to concept and system design including modeling
  • Write technical system documentation
  • Collaborate with developers for implementation of system design

It is desirable to have experience in some of these areas

  • Recent real-time services (VoIP, SIP, network, radio, etc.)
  • Experience with cybersecurity
  • Recent communication technology including various communication protocols
  • Requirements management
  • Modeling / UML / decomposition

Qualifications and characteristics

  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • You have good technical competence and abilities to understand solutions at a technically detailed level
  • Experience from, and understanding of system development, system design, and architecture in interaction with software
  • Relevant higher technical education, preferably Master (we want certificates from all applicants)
  • Responsible, self-motivated, and curious about new technology
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in both Norwegian and English

To be a current candidate for the position, you must be a Norwegian citizen, and you must be able to be security cleared and authorized for level SECRET and NATO SECRET with special instructions from the National Security Authority. You cannot hold citizenship other than Norwegian.
