Operating at the forefront of aerospace and space, cybersecurity and digital identity, we're driven by a mission to build a future we can all trust.

In Singapore, Thales has been a trusted partner since 1973, originally focused on aerospace activities in the Asia-Pacific region. With 2,000 employees across three local sites, we deliver cutting-edge solutions across aerospace (including air traffic management), defence and security, and digital identity and cybersecurity sectors. Together, we're shaping the future by enabling customers to make pivotal decisions that safeguard communities and power progress.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join our Research & Technology (TRT-SG) team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of advancing cutting-edge quantum RF sensing technologies, working on tasks such as simulations on thermal and EMI/EMC of cryocooling systems and experimental characterization of quantum superconducting electronic chips. As part of our dynamic R&T team, you will actively contribute to research projects from conceptualization to prototype development, collaborating with interdisciplinary experts to achieve transformative technological breakthroughs with practical applications in defense, communications, and precision measurement. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in simulation and hands-on experimental techniques, contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge quantum sensing technologies with real-world applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal simulations of cryocooling systems to analyze heat transfer and system performance.
  • Conduct EMI/EMC simulations to assess electromagnetic compatibility of cryogenic hardware.
  • Analyze simulation and experimental data to support hardware design improvements.
  • Hands-on design, build and test of hardware prototypes to validate their performance and functionality.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to advance R&D goals.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, industrial partners, and government agencies to transition research into practical applications.
  • Plan and manage R&D projects, including defining objectives, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, progress reports, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Contribute to TRT-SG research work products and knowledge sharing through potential patents, external and Group internal conferences and presentations, publications, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master/Ph.D. in Physics or engineering related discipline.
  • Good understanding of quantum mechanics, semiconductor technologies, and RF Photonics
  • Basic knowledge in thermal simulation, EMI/EMC principles, or quantum device characterization is desirable.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Knowledge of transitioning technologies from low TRL research to high TRL prototypes.
  • Proven ability to work independently, formulate research plans and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Preparation and review of analysis presentations and reports. Presentation of analysis results at internal and external working group meetings.
  • Support collaborative research efforts with other team members.

At Thales, we're committed to fostering a workplace where respect, trust, collaboration, and passion drive everything we do. Here, you'll feel empowered to bring your best self, thrive in a supportive culture, and love the work you do.
