Our Above Water Systems team designs and engineers commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities. We're proud to bolster Australia's sovereign capability through operational support to our Navy. The Role:

A great opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team based in Woolloomooloo. In this role you will develop the skills and experience to satisfy the requirements for becoming a Design Authority Signatory ("Designer") for Mechanical Engineering tasks. Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform design tasks and analyses appropriate to individual experience and specialised knowledge in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Work under broad professional guidance, independently or as a team member to ensure that design products comply with the technical requirements of the task and are performed within the allocated cost and schedule.
  • Work towards the attainment of "Designer" Signatory status for assigned tasks.
  • Work towards the attainment of Chartered status of IEAust.
  • Plan operations and or processes required to complete allocated design tasks, including estimation of requirements of staffing, material costs and quantities.
  • Understand technical, commercial and legal implications of actions and respond accordingly.
  • Ensure knowledge of quality concepts, standards, systems and programs and their importance to the organisation's success.

How about you?

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications admitting to membership of a professional institution.
  • Relevant drafting, technical and task management experience highly desirable.
  • Experience in the use or management of CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) is essential and 3D Modelling software packages highly desirable.
  • Experience with the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS Project highly desirable.
