This is a hybrid role in Victoria, BC Canada (west coast).
Thales Canada is looking for Docking & Engineering Specification Writers to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.
The Thales Docking & Engineering Specification Writers will work with the Thales LCMM & Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy's Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but not limited to the planning and execution of ship structural surveys and associated defect resolution, preparation of survey reports, development of repair specifications, docking work packages, and other technical support activities as required.

• Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
• Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
• Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level
The Docking & Engineering Specification Writer will report to the Manager – Certification Management within TCDS and support with the development of docking work packages, based on industry/RCN accepted practices and available technical documentation. This may include but not limited to:

The candidate must meet each of the following criteria:
• Minimum education requirements:
• Possess a minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 15 years;
• Previous experience as a Marine Surveyor with a Classification Society or within the Royal Canadian Navy;
• Minimum of five years experience in surveying or maintenance of vessels to commercial or military standards;
• Demonstrated experience with the planning, management and execution of ship dockings and dry dock refits;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Other experience that would be a preference include:
• Combination of office work and working at dockyards and on board Naval ships
• Required to undertake inspections in machinery and confined spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting
• Schedule: 40 hours per week
• Physical Environment: Hybrid position – a mix of working from home and onsite (in office or on board DND ships at waterfront)
• Travel: Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships
