Regional Desktop Support Specialist

As part of TCEQ Administrative Services, you would help support the logistical and operational structure for TCEQ statewide -- the business foundation for the whole agency. This position is a member of our Information Resources Division.

What You’ll Be Doing

Provide desktop and application support; participate in the implementation, maintenance, monitoring and development of local PC systems, E-mail, and peripherals; and participate in PC system installations, testing, and monitoring of current hardware, software, and related equipment for the Customer Support Center Section of the Information Resources Division of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Respond to requests logged in call tracking software for assistance with hardware, application, or network problems; and provide explanations to users on problem resolutions, steps to implement them, and preventative measures to keep problems from recurring and on more effective use of IT equipment and applications. Provide Desktop Support Services to customers. Install, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade, repair, and maintain desktop hardware, software, and client applications in accordance with agency standards. Provision agency iOS devices. Identify technology problems and coordinate with other technical and management staff to effect solutions. Inform management of the status of assigned service calls; inform management promptly when unable to resolve a customer complaint. Document on the status and completion of calls in call tracking software. Mentor junior staff in the delivery of customer service and on the installation, configuration, testing, monitoring, and repair of PC systems. Communicate with TCEQ customers about the dangers of the internet and the damage it can cause to the IT equipment. Enforce and comply with TCEQ IT security policies and hardware and software standards.

Qualifications

Key qualifications: Experience with IT customer service in a call center/help desk environment. Experience in supporting or troubleshooting PC and printer hardware. Experience in configuring devices in a networked environment. Experience provisioning iOS devices in MDM. Experience supporting Microsoft 365. Experience troubleshooting network connectivity.

Required education experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience in data processing AND assisting users in computer application use OR in troubleshooting computer systems problems (hardware/software). OR Fifteen semester hours in computer science from an accredited college or university, or 300 clock hours in computer science from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school, and three (3) years of full-time experience in data processing AND assisting users in computer application use OR troubleshooting computer systems problems (hardware/software). OR An associate degree in computer science and two (2) years of full-time experience in data processing AND assisting users in computer application use OR troubleshooting computer systems problems (hardware/software). OR A bachelor's degree in computer science and one (1) year of full-time experience in data processing AND assisting users in computer application use OR troubleshooting computer systems problems (hardware/software). OR One (1) year of full-time experience in TCEQ as an IT Support Specialist IV.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule: Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Information Resources Division.
