Job Opportunity At MD Anderson Cancer Center

Join one of the world's most respected centers devoted to cancer patient care, research, education, and prevention. The MD Anderson Clinical Trials Lab Services (CTLS) team specializes in research biospecimen collection of blood, urine, buccal, and hair. The CTLS lab provides prompt and accurate processing, storage, tracking, and shipment of specimens. The primary purpose of the Patient Services Coordinator position is to perform operational and clinical tasks including but not limited to patient appointment and consult scheduling; scheduling diagnostic tests, expediting clinic flow, accurate processing and completion of charge captive tasks and assisting in invasive identification and authorization. Requires knowledge of and execution of selected tasks related to direct patient care. Operations and clinical support are the major function of this position. Requires flexibility and the ability to function in multiple patient support capabilities as delegated by the charge nurse or center management team.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a healthcare setting, managing front desk operations, scheduling and expediting clinic flow. Experience with EPIC preferred. The position is 100% onsite, Monday - Friday 9:30am-6:00pm.

Key Functions

  • Patient Interaction: (50%) Greets, orients, and answers questions. Consistently provide updates to patients on unit status. Schedule patient visits, diagnostic tests, treatments and procedures. Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors. Provide patients with pagers when the unit is full.
  • Communication with Patients and Multidisciplinary Team: (25%) Notify physician/research team when orders are needed. Manage schedule requests in a timely and efficient manner. Communicates pertinent information regarding appointments, scheduling, and necessary preparation and/or changes to patients, families, physician, research team members, and others centers via in person, phone, mail, by online applications or secure messaging. Provide communication to research team when patients do not arrive for their appointments within 4 hours. Provide consistent updates to the ORS System, Lab Tracker and/or ARMADA.
  • Record Maintenance: (25%) Prepares and maintains appointment templates and/or patient records electronically and/or manually as directed. Consistently submit CTRC Scanned nurse log, DPA, and sign in forms to correct folders. Completed patient packs for the next day appointments. Pull all orders and provide patient labels as directed. Maintain scheduling work queue and EKG logs. Maintain Rounding logs and patient room/nurse assignment log. Keep early bird forms, chemotherapy books, available in the lobby for patients.

Education

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in Health Services Administration or Business.

Experience

Required: Three years of relevant work experience. Preferred: Experience in a patient care or healthcare administration setting. EPIC experience. May substitute additional education for required experience on a one to one basis.

Other

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
