Job Summary: The eBeam technology represents a major breakthrough in packaging sterilisation, enabling high-speed production, reduced operational costs, and significant reductions in the use of chemicals, water, and energy. We are looking for talented people across multiple areas—Development, Engineering, Production, and Supplier Management—to help drive the evolution of our eBeam system for today's and tomorrow's filling equipment.
The Senior Physicist & eBeam Technology Leader is responsible for driving innovation, development, and integration of electron beam (eBeam) technologies within industrial applications. The role combines deep theoretical expertise with hands-on engineering, supporting technology development from early concept through validation and production. The position plays a key leadership role in roadmap definition, innovation portfolio management, and cross-functional coordination across R&D, production, quality, and field operations. This is a permanent position, based in Modena-Italy. For knowledge transfer from Flamatt site, travel to Switzerland is required at the beginning of the assignment.
What You Will Do:
- Lead innovation projects and integration of technologies
- Support mechanical design through knowledge of electron dynamics and materials/electron interaction
- Facilitate creation of Equipment Engineering Early Innovation Portfolio
- Support OHS for radioprotection
- Participate creation of Technology roadmaps
- Engineering Specification Owner of the cathode
- Write V&V for technologies, project and run test rigs for internal testing
- Interact with production to support production continuity and improvements
- Support the definition and execution of the Early Innovation activities portfolio, from concept to validation
- Lead stakeholder management across R&D, production, quality, and field organizations
- Availability to travel up to 40% for the first two years
- Define and manage milestones and deliverables, including technical forums to review progress versus expected outcomes
- Lead innovation projects and the integration of eBeam technologies into industrial systems
- Participate in and contribute to the creation of technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Facilitate the development of the Equipment Engineering Early Innovation Portfolio, including prioritization and execution
- Support mechanical design activities through expertise in electron dynamics and material interactions
- Act as Engineering Specification Owner for the cathode, ensuring design integrity and performance requirements
- Verification, Validation & Testing
- Define and write Verification & Validation (V&V) plans for technologies and projects
- Design, build, and operate test rigs for internal testing and technology validation
- Analyze experimental data and simulations to support design decisions and improvements
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead stakeholder management across R&D, production, quality, and field teams
- Define and manage project milestones and deliverables, including technical review forums to evaluate progress
- Interact with production teams to support continuity, troubleshooting, and process improvements
- Innovation Portfolio Execution
- Support the definition and execution of the Early Innovation activities portfolio, ensuring effective transition from concept to industrialization
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Support Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) activities related to radioprotection in eBeam applications
We believe you have a degree in Physics. A PhD and/or 5 experience in industry will be positively evaluated. Knowledge about electron beam (eBeam) sterilization technology/irradiation technology/electron acceleration/plasma. Relevant knowledge of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics in filling machines. Competence regarding: Physics modelling and simulation (FEM, electron trajectory, Monte Carlo), Competence in design and testing of high vacuum system Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required. High sense of discipline, attention to details, ability to motivate a team, high level of negotiation skills, creative, adaptable, self-motivated and results oriented.
