Job Summary: The eBeam technology represents a major breakthrough in packaging sterilisation, enabling high-speed production, reduced operational costs, and significant reductions in the use of chemicals, water, and energy. We are looking for talented people across multiple areas—Development, Engineering, Production, and Supplier Management—to help drive the evolution of our eBeam system for today's and tomorrow's filling equipment.

The Materials & Process Expert for eBeam Technology & Integration is a senior technical role responsible for driving materials and process excellence across the eBeam product lifecycle. The role acts as the technical leader for the eBeam technology roadmap, supports early innovation initiatives, and ensures robust integration into production environments. The position provides strong field support, leads root cause analysis, and bridges materials science, physics, manufacturing processes, and production quality. This is a permanent position, based in Modena-Italy. For knowledge transfer from Flamatt site, travel to Switzerland is required at the beginning of the assignment.

What You Will Do:

  • Technology Leadership & Roadmap Ownership
  • Lead innovation projects and integration of technologies
  • Participate in the creation of Technology roadmaps
  • Act as technical leader for the eBeam materials and process roadmap, defining strategy, priorities, and long-term development paths.
  • Monitor roadmap execution, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and business needs.
  • Support the definition and execution of the Early Innovation activities portfolio, from concept to validation.
  • Lead stakeholder management across R&D, production, quality, and field organizations.
  • Define and manage milestones and deliverables, including technical forums to review progress versus expected outcomes.

Materials Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Support material analysis and improvement activities for the eBeam lamp.
  • Investigate material behavior, degradation mechanisms, and failure modes under different operating conditions.
  • Drive material and process optimizations balancing performance, reliability, and cost.

Field Support & Problem Resolution

  • Responsible for root cause analysis and management of customer complaints related to eBeam materials and processes.
  • Interface with field teams to collect data, analyze issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Production & Quality Support

  • Provide strong technical support to production, with particular focus on foil-related processes and issues.
  • Support production teams in troubleshooting, process optimization, and robustness improvements.
  • Contribute to defining and improving quality controls and inspection methods for materials and coatings.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Act as a technical bridge between materials science, physics, mechanical design, and manufacturing.
  • Support integration of eBeam technology into production and system environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.

We believe you have:

  • Degree in Materials engineering or similar.
  • A PhD and/or 5 years experience in industry will be positively evaluated.
  • Knowledge about sterilization technologies/irradiation technology/electron acceleration/plasma.
  • Knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics in filling machine environment.
  • Deep expertise in metals and metal alloys, with particular focus on titanium-based materials.
  • Strong knowledge of coating and deposition technologies, including cost drivers, functional performance, and process selection.
  • Solid understanding of corrosion mechanisms and material and coating degradation in different operational environments.
  • In-depth understanding of production processes, including: Vacuum furnace processes, Welding procedures, Diffusion bonding processes.
  • Knowledges on semiconductors and sensor technologies for radiation and vacuum.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design principles, including design for vacuum technologies, and their impact on materials, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Knowledge of production steps and quality checks, including: Eddy current measurements for thickness detection, Vision systems for inspection and quality control.
  • Excellent understanding of filling machines and superstructure environments, requiring strong competencies in: Fluid dynamics, Thermodynamics.
  • Solid foundation in physics, with emphasis on light–matter interaction and particle physics.
  • Experience in early innovation portfolio definition and execution.
  • Strong competencies in root cause analysis and customer complaint management.
  • Proficient knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and protection strategies.
  • Competence in design and testing of high vacuum system.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Availability to travel up to 40% for the first two years.
  • High sense of discipline, attention to details, ability to motivate a team, high level of negotiation skills, creative, adaptable, self-motivated and results oriented.
