Automation Engineer
As Automation Engineer in our Vancouver factory, you are responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of automation systems within the factory equipment, developing and implementing equipment improvements, and designing and leading relevant projects. You will support the Maintenance & Projects department by troubleshooting and investigating automation-related breakdowns (root cause analysis), providing technical procedures, and developing training documents and troubleshooting guides in specific fields such as PLCs, AC/DC Drives, and Robotics. You may be also required to act as the Operational Technology (OT) Security Superuser, communicating with the central team in matters relating to OT Security.
The position is based in Vancouver, WA.
As Automation Engineer, you will:
- Troubleshoot and investigate automation-related equipment losses.
- Actively participate in process improvements through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or Lean Manufacturing principles, specifically as it relates to root cause analysis for machine issues and implementation of technical bulletins.
- Lead projects or be in charge of automation and integration of new equipment projects.
- Prepare and deliver training for the maintenance department in relation to the factory automated systems.
- Collaborate with Tetra Pak's other factories and with the Automation Hub for benchmarking and support.
- Keep and maintain updated documentation for the factory and machines as needed.
- Implement Condition Based Maintenance Techniques where applicable.
- Act as an Operational Technology (OT) Superuser within Tetra Pak's network and be responsible for OT security compliance as needed.
We believe you have:
- An Engineering degree in Automation / Controls or Computer Science or specific Controls / Automation Technical Training and at least 3 years related experience.
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFD).
- Knowledge of PLC programming, servo drives, VFDs, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong experience with SCADA systems, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and thin clients.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and network drawings.
- Knowledge of computer architecture, change settings in Windows-based environments and network principles.
- Ideally experience working in Siemens Step 7 programming.
- Experience in Starter, Scout, TIA Portal; WinCC; Omron; Allen Bradley; Robot Studio a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills.

The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Ranges are determined by role, level and location. Within the range, individual pay is defined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule. The estimate displayed is just one component of Tetra Pak's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include annual performance bonus, competitive benefits, and work-related allowances.
- Annual Base Salary Range (ABS): $70,100 – $100,000
- Short-term Incentive/Bonus (Variable Pay): Eligible to performance incentive of 10% of ABS
