Press Engineering Manager

This position is responsible for managing the Press Engineering Department. You will lead the team in establishing manufacturing processes using provided tooling and equipment to ensure competitive, safe, and high-quality production of high-strength steel stamped products. The role requires continuous improvement efforts in quality and cost within a fast-paced, lean manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and train Press Engineering members, including routine evaluations and goal setting.
  • Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, HR, and other relevant departments.
  • Co-develop and mature new program products with related Engineering Departments and other functions, including collaboration with Japan Engineering members.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) practices on existing products, focusing on SPM increases, dimensional accuracy, scrap reduction, material yield, and manpower requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of design changes or mill changes.
  • Inspect tooling before shipping it from Japan, with the ability to travel abroad.
  • Provide feedback on die problems to design standard.
  • Manage department budget and costs effectively.

Essential Skills:

  • 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including budgetary responsibility, personnel development, and performance management.
  • Experience with large transfer and progressive presses, with a focus on sheet metal; BIW/ultra-high steel experience preferred.
  • Experience with tool and die, with the ability to develop parts and tooling to produce high-quality products.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with BIW and ultra-high steel (980/1180 pascal).
  • Experience with transfer presses (600-1000 ton) and progressive presses (2000- ton).

Work Environment:

The work environment consists of a fairly standard automotive stamping setting. The position requires a Monday to Friday schedule with 10-12 hour days, and frequent weekend work depending on workload. This role offers an opportunity to work with top industry technology and advancements in high-strength steel stamping, with no risk of downsizing due to the essential nature of the position.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $115000.00/yr. Health, Vision, Dental, 401K, PTO, Paid Holidays.
