Pharmacy Technician

Essential Functions:

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent's performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent's immediate supervisor or manager.

  1. Assist licensed pharmacists in day-to-day pharmacy operations, including dispensing and packaging medications, in compliance with local, state, federal, and organizational regulations.
  2. Perform prepacking duties, including preparation of equipment, application of barcode-compliant labels, packaging of medications, and execution of quality control protocols to ensure accuracy and safety.
  3. Monitor and manage inventory through stock control procedures, including stock level audits, verification of expiration dates, stock file maintenance, and internal stock transfers.
  4. Ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and functionality of the fulfillment area by performing regular cleaning tasks and assisting in the maintenance of equipment and materials.
  5. Demonstrate a strong understanding of and adherence to loss prevention techniques and inventory security protocols.
  6. Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by regulatory bodies and internal policies.
  7. Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and other departments to ensure a high level of service and operational efficiency.
  8. Support a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and reporting workflow inefficiencies or safety concerns.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Education, Licensure or Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Completion of pharmacy technician training program is a plus

Work Experience or Related Experience:

Minimum of six (6) months of experience in a pharmacy or healthcare-related environment preferred

Strong organizational skills and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Professional demeanor with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and teamwork

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in basic math, including pharmaceutical calculations and conversions

Familiarity with medication names (brand and generic), dosage forms, and medical terminology

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Ability to learn and navigate pharmacy management software and barcode scanning systems

Travel Requirements and Conditions:

This position does not require travel.

Work Environment, Conditions and Demands:

Work is performed in a climate-controlled, indoor, smoke-free pharmacy or warehouse environment

Fast-paced environment and frequent exposure to deadlines and time-sensitive tasks

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach intermittently throughout the workday

Must be able to hear and respond to spoken instructions in a typical work environment
