HGV/Skilled Technician – Ground Service Equipment

Location: Manchester Airport Reporting to: Workshop Manager

Schedule: 6am until 6pm on a 4 on 4 off rota pattern

Salary: Up to £43,900.00 per annum

Are you a skilled technician with a passion for aviation and ground support operations? Swissport is looking for an experienced and dedicated Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Technician to join our high-performing team. You'll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of airport vehicles and equipment—ensuring our ground operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

We're looking for a Skilled GSE Technician who thrive on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of Ground Service Equipment—from aircraft tugs and belt loaders to de-icing rigs and high-tech hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

As a GSE Technician, you'll be responsible for:

  • Servicing and maintaining a wide range of airport ground support vehicles and equipment
  • Performing scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, and urgent repairs
  • Diagnosing faults across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • Uploading job details and inspection reports into our fleet management system
  • Responding to out-of-hours service requests when required
  • Supporting other Swissport stations with GSE needs when needed

Qualifications

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience within HGV, Plant or Hydraulics would be desirable.
  • Time-served technician with City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-year post-apprenticeship experience in GSE, HGV, plant, or similar heavy-duty equipment
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
  • A proactive, safety-first mindset and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work in all weather conditions
  • Own tools required
  • Welding experience is an advantage
  • Full valid UK driving licence
  • Able to pass DBS security background checks, references required for 5 years
