Svitzer

Provides marine towage, salvage, and related services to support safe, efficient port and terminal operations worldwide.

Operations Superintendent

At Svitzer, keeping ports running and global trade moving takes more than crews on the water. Behind every safe towage job is a capable shore-based team making it happen. From operations and technical support to planning, systems and compliance, we rely on people who understand the importance of doing things properly. If you are looking for meaningful work within a close-knit team that genuinely supports one another, you will be in good company.

Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking an Operations Superintendent to join our Dampier team on a permanent, full-time basis, working Monday to Friday. Reporting to and supporting the Port Manager, this role plays a key part in delivering both our established terminal towage services and our newly awarded loadmaster activities with Woodside.

We encourage applications from candidates residing in the Pilbara region, or those willing to relocate to be part of our local Dampier team. This position is not offered on a FIFO basis, and the successful candidate will be required to live locally.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute across a broader operational scope beyond traditional towage, including our loadmaster services with Woodside. Working closely with the Port Manager, you will partner with crews, customers and key stakeholders to help deliver safe, compliant and efficient marine operations.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Supporting the Port Manager in the day-to-day oversight of terminal towage and loadmaster operations, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with contractual obligations
  • Acting as a primary onshore contact for crew matters, including coordination of rosters and leave, supporting recruitment and onboarding activities, and ensuring compliance with the training matrix
  • Monitoring and maintaining crew certification and vessel documentation to ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory and classification society requirements
  • Supporting the Technica Superintendent with coordinating contractors for vessel maintenance, repairs and shore-based facility requirements, ensuring quality, timeliness and cost effectiveness
  • Supporting budget oversight, cost control initiatives and the preparation of operational and customer reports, including contractual compliance documentation
  • Liaising with customers including Woodside, port authorities, statutory bodies and other stakeholders as directed by the Port Manager, representing Svitzer in a professional and solutions-focused manner

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience within the maritime industry, ideally across towage, terminal operations or broader marine services
  • Sound practical knowledge of vessel operations, marine compliance and relevant statutory requirements
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to step in, take ownership and support the smooth running of daily operations
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and remain composed in a dynamic operational environment
  • Clear and professional communication skills, enabling you to build positive working relationships with crews, contractors, customers and stakeholders
  • An understanding of marine classification societies and statutory authorities, or a genuine interest in developing this capability further
  • A strong commitment to safety, with a focus on risk awareness, compliance and continuous improvement in operational practices

In Svitzer we value the diversity of our talent and will always strive to recruit the best person for the job – we value diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to gender, age, nationality, race, sexual orientation, disability, or religious beliefs. We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength for building high performing teams.

Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that members from some under-represented groups are less likely to apply for jobs if they don't meet every single qualification. At Svitzer we are dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles, and we are excited about hearing from you!
