About The Role

To contribute to the successful delivery of civil and structural engineering projects through detailed design, coordination, and technical excellence, while supporting project management, client engagement, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed design of civil and structural elements across various project stages.
• Perform design checking to ensure accuracy, compliance, and constructability.
• Conduct site inspections and liaise with contractors to resolve design queries.
• Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure design intent and project goals are met.
• Assist in resource planning and coordination of project teams alongside Senior Engineers and Associates.
• Actively promote Robert Bird Group to clients and stakeholders.
• Monitor and assist in project cost control, including fee variation negotiation and invoicing preparation.
• Support the training and supervision of graduate engineers and junior draftspersons.
• Contribute to project programming and progress monitoring.
• Implement and uphold QA procedures across all deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, and oversee team adherence.
• Participate in the Workplace Health and Safety committee when required.

• Contribute to project profitability through efficient design and cost awareness.
• Meet programme milestones and deadlines.

• Support the development of graduate engineers through mentoring and technical guidance.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment within the London office, aligned with company values.

Person Specification

• Qualifications: BEng/BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering; working towards Chartered status (ICE or IStructE).
• Experience: 3+ years in structural design, ideally within consultancy or multidisciplinary environments.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, STAAD.Pro); strong understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards.
• Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
