Quality Engineer I

Position at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc.

SEWS—El Paso Customer Service Center (Eastside)

Evaluate wire harness components using various testing equipment including: Force Tester, Visual Measuring System, Moisture Analyzer, Rubber Hardness Tester, Temperature Chamber, Caliper, Micrometer, and XRF Analyzer.

Maintain proper working order and calibration of all equipment.

Schedule and coordinate calibration of equipment, and maintain corresponding records.

Maintain 5S and ensure a safe working environment in the lab.

Manage inventory and records of testing plates, jigs, and fixtures.

Review and maintain quality and inspection documentation.

Standardize testing methodology by creating and updating work instructions.

Plan and procure jig fixtures for various projects.

Set up and operate testing equipment for new component evaluation.

Evaluate component appearance, function, dimensions, and raw materials.

Investigate root causes of failures or defects.

Prepare and complete component evaluation and inspection reports.

Organize and file inspection reports and lab documentation.

Maintain operational condition and calibration records of all equipment.

Create and maintain work instructions and procedures related to component evaluation processes.

Develop or update work instructions.

Standardize testing methodologies for continuous improvement.

Train engineers and associates in component evaluation methods and equipment use.

Maintain 5S and ensure lab safety compliance.

Conduct XRF testing using x-ray equipment for substances of concern.

Assist in sourcing and ordering lab equipment, test plates, jigs, and fixtures.

Prepare and present KPIs related to lab activities.

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required (BSEE or BSME preferred).

0–3 years of experience in product evaluation or quality engineering.

Hands-on experience with product evaluation using a Visual Measuring System and Force Tester.

Experience in automotive component development preferred.

Understanding of GD&T (certification preferred).

Strong communication skills, team-oriented, and motivated to take on challenging tasks.

Ability to multi-task effectively.

Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Typing speed of at least 50 words per minute.
