Director, Site-Based Learning And Services

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Academic Operations, the Director, Site-Based Learning and Services will be responsible for delivering outstanding customer service for our students, developing technology-assisted processes, and engaging the team in continuous improvement. The director will also be responsible for leading the transformation of experiential learning through Capella's Work Integrated Learning Information System (WILIS). This role is pivotal in delivering exceptional quality assurance, accuracy with resource allocation, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement. Partnering with the academic leadership team and other staff functions, this position will provide thought leadership in university-level support, services, and guidelines for Site-Based Learning program administration and related services (such as licensure and verification), including visioning, plan development, implementation, and continuous improvement to improve learner experience and learning outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategy Development and Management

  • Collaboratively contribute to and implement the university vision and strategy; Drive development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic plans for the portfolio.
  • Partner with university leadership and stakeholders to ensure the program administration and services align with overall organizational strategy, accreditation standards and regulatory requirements, and deliver against quality metrics.
  • Build and nurture internal and external partnerships and relationships that drive and improve success for the university.
  • Consistently demonstrate leadership practices that result in high quality and consistent organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate courage and confidence in seeking and executing innovation, display curiosity in creating value through seeking improvement and avenues for optimization.

Strategic Leadership & WILIS Alignment

  • Co-lead the vision and execution of WILIS, including phased releases and capability-based planning
  • Exercise robust collaboration with academic and operational leaders to ensure WILIS supports compliance, licensure, and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure a seamless learner experience from activation to final reporting, leveraging WILIS to guide students through each step.

Operations Management through Excellent Customer Service

  • Guarantee a smooth and supportive site experience for students from pre-application to completion
  • Collaborate with various departments to streamline processes, resolve issues, and enhance student services.
  • Monitor key metrics to inform targeted coaching and process improvements.
  • Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals.
  • Develop and improve data-informed processes to provide ongoing service and support to stakeholder groups across Capella.

People Leadership, Culture Development, and Management

  • Direct supervision of supervisors and individual contributors and indirect supervision of the SBL administration and Licensure service team.
  • Delegate, coach, motivate, and develop team members.
  • Provide a communication channel for the team and other internal teams/departments.
  • Serve as a resource person to the team and peers within Academic and Faculty Affairs and CU.
  • Actively cultivate a culture of trust, accountability, and high performance within the vertical and across the organization.
  • Serves as a member of appropriate leadership committees and work groups.

Work Experience:

  • 6-8 years of management or supervisory experience
  • 10-12 or more years of experience in site-based learning field, including licensure-track program administration.
  • Proven success in leading technology-integrated service transformation.
  • Expertise in experiential learning, licensure services, and compliance.
  • Strong command of data analytics, workflow optimization, and change management.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or operations management. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • All degrees must be conferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Other:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles travel would not be common. Travel may involve plane, car or metro. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
  • Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
  • If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • Faculty and Federal Work Study roles require access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.
  • This role may require lifting, however reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with our ADA policies.
  • Must be able to meet critical thinking and problem solving aspects aligned to job duties, as well as effectively communicating with co-workers.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant. Accommodations related to schedule may be considered.
